Two levels, the upper being a first class cabin leather seating with leg and foot rests, adjustable reclining & lumbar supports, a ridiculous amount of legroom, USB port for recharging your phone (you may need it after all the photos), again seats are assigned on arrival but floating is possible if not full….every seat has spectacular unobstructed dome windows for the ultimate viewing experience.
Meals are served in the lower dining car, and are split into two seatings where guests have their choice of six menu options. Meals are cooked to order. Gold Leaf also has their own viewing platform which is easily double the size and could hold 10+ guests comfortably.
Rocky Mountaineer trains have 2 classes…called Leaf….Silver and Gold.
Regardless of “leaf” category, each train car has their own staff and hosts filled with stories and history of the region you are visiting. A multitude of in between meal snacks are served (yum to the warm brownies served in Gold Leaf), a full included bar. What neither have however is WiFi (don’t count on cell service either)….this is done on purpose….so guests are forced (happily) to disconnect.
Silver Leaf has spacious leather seating, foot rests, plenty of leg room, large windows for viewing scenery, seats are assigned on arrival (although space permitting, guests can float), breakfast & lunch are served at your seat and are plentiful with 3 options to choose from, each car has their own viewing platform for fresh air and amazing scenery.

The day has finally arrived! THIS is what we came for, to experience first hand Rocky Mountaineer ! First let me say, for those who haven’t been following along, the staff at RM has been amazing at rearranging things to accommodate our learning group. They literally flew in new staff and added an additional Gold Leaf car to an existing train JUST so we could have one day (instead of the planned 3) aboard their amazing trains. These are not rushed days aboard the Rocky Mountaineer, the trains travel across their routes slowly allowing guests to relax and absorb the amazing scenery passing by. Change in plans! Thanks to the hard work of our hosts at Rocky Mountaineer we are headed to Kamloops (meeting of the waters), the area is a semi arid forest, despite 2 rivers and a lake. This small city is very spread out and has the feel of a small town. We will spend 2 nights here, changing hotels but we ARE travel pros after all, so no problem! Opting to spend our free day in Kamloops on a Wildlife and Wine tour, first stop BC Wildlife Park. We joke this is our first “Rocky Mountaineer” train experience….have to have a sense of humor. This is home to the rare Kermode “spirit” bear, a subspecies of black bear where both parents must carry the “spirit” gene. Clover, age 1 at the time, was found orphaned and brought to the center. It may seem sad, to cage a bear….but if it were not for the center, she would certainly have perished as bears learn their life and hunting skills from their mothers from ages 1-2. The center cares for 2 black bears and 2 grizzlies. The food bill is $10,000 per month….per bear!
