Travel Tip Tuesday!!! Let’s chat about packing!
Packing is always a bit of a struggle for me. I try to be efficient but also want to make sure I have all my bases covered. Here are some helpful tips.
1)Pack your heavier items first, and on the bottom. This helps prevent your suitcase from become top heavy. With the heavier items towards the bottom, your nicer and more delicate items are less likely to get squished/wrinkled.
2)This rule has been around for a minute, but it’s new to me! When it comes to how many of what items to pack, consider the 5-4-3-2-1 rule. Pack 5 sets of socks and underwear each, 4 tops (consider keeping them basic), 3 bottoms, 2 shoes, and 1 accessory type item (i.e hat, bigger sweater/jacket, swimsuit, or maybe an extra pair of shoes). Adjust these numbers based on the location. I would still recommend this even if you are staying longer than a week and consider laundry services in between.
3)Pack those toiletries in their own separate bag. This allows for them to become easily accessible and less messy if it leaks. Also, think about anything important like medications to stay with you and not packed in checked-in luggage. Finally, when packing toiletries consider the travel sized items vs. full size. It’ll save you space and weight.
4)This final one was a game changer for me. It’s so simple but what an impact. Bring a separate laundry bag! It doesn’t need to be fancy; a big plastic garbage will do the trick. This helped keep my laundry condensed and separated. Then when you get home you’ll know which items need to be washed, plus it won’t stink up your suitcase!
