It's BACK!!! - Photographing Horses in Beautiful, Colorado Scenes

You will be strategically positioned to capture a herd of beautiful, multi-colored horses as they are wrangled by expert cowboys. APT instructors will provide the necessary instruction to capture the scenes perfectly so you can turn your favorite image into a living room showpiece.

This is a unique day of photography you will always remember.
Proce is $650 which includes breakfast and lunch at the ranch.

Lodging is available at the ranch for the first six people who request it ($120 per night per person)

This year we are including a post-processing session where we demonstrate Photoshop's new AI tools.

There are still openings for our May 31, 2024, small-group workshop in Hanksville, Utah.

Hanksville is AMAZING! The landscape is beautiful and unique. If you like photo competitions, just review the galleries of landscape winners that come from Hanksville.

Also, if you have been looking for a great place to use your drone, Hanksville is perfect for drone photography. Ken and I are both licensed and experienced drone operators who will provide detailed instruction to ensure you capture great photos from the perspective only a drone can give.

This is a small-group workshop, only 6 guests. The price for the workshop is only $495 (less than half of the price for similar workshops) and lodging in Hanksville is available and very reasonable.

The terrain around Hanksville can be rough, but don't worry, APT will do all the driving. Finally, APT is fully permitted to conduct workshops in this area. We hope you can join us.

The area around Hanksville Utah is a magical journey to another world. The landscape and light offer the most unique photo opportunities we’ve ever experienced. It is also one of the very best places in the US for DRONE photography!

This year American Photo Treks is offering a special, small-group adventure to this photographic wonderland. There is only room for six participants. That's two instructors to help you capture the best possible images. We are familiar with Sony, Canon and Nikon camera systems and DJI drone systems.

We will go to the most scenic locations at just the right times to capture these unique landscapes in the best possible light. Many of the roads require 4-wheel drive vehicles and by joining us, we'll be driving you around so you don't have to worry about whether or not your car will be able to traverse the remote roads.

The areas we will be visiting are EXCELLENT areas to fly drones. We highly recommend bringing a drone along on this workshop. If you just purchased your first drone, this workshop is an excellent way to get started. There are plenty of wide-open, drone friendly areas. Both Ken and Dave are FAA licensed and experienced drone pilots.

Lodging and food are not included in the workshop price. The Whispering Pines hotel is VERY affordable. Plus, there are two very affordable, nice campgrounds. We will be travelling during most mealtimes, so we will be carrying coolers to eat on-the-go.

American Photo Treks is approved and permitted by the Bureau of Land Management to conduct this workshop.

1st Place/Diamond! - Wow, I am thriller to report that my image, Winter at the Ranch, took 1st place at this year's Professional Photographers of American, International Photographic Competition in the Reportage/Photojournalism category.

The award came with the title "Diamond Photographer of the Year," a nice crystal trophy and $1000.00!

The top 32 images in each category (16 total categories) were judged head-to-head, bracket-style until a 1st place winner was chosen. The final four images were judged live. When this image reached the final bracket and won, Kay and I about jumped through the ceiling. What a rush.

I had two other images in the finals of two other categories. They were awarded Gold (top 8 in Sports) and Silver (top 16 in Landscape).

This is the second year in a row one of my images from our Horses in Winter adventure has taken a top prize. There are still four spots open for Sunday (just say'in)

The lucky recipient of this gift will get a unique opportunity to photograph a beautiful herd of horses being expertly wrangled against the backdrop of snow-capped Colorado peaks. This year we have moved the date a little further into February to increase the chance for SNOW!

The workshop includes sunrise shots with the wranglers, breakfast and lunch, several different angles of the herd, including many shots of the horses running straight at you! After the horses are done, some of the wranglers pose for western portraits in the barn. It is a very fun and rewarding day!
