Columbia Tourism Ambassadors

Columbia Tourism Ambassadors Engaged community ambassadors that understand Columbia's tourism! Everyone benefits – the visitor, the industry, and the local economy.

The CTA program serves to inspire employees, tourism partners, volunteers, and Columbia citizens to turn every visitors encounter into a positive experience. When visitors have a positive experience, they are more likely to return in the future and also share their experience with others. Becoming a CTA means ensuring you understand your role in increasing tourism – the program will increase your

knowledge of the region, provide answers to a variety of questions received from visitors, and will give you the chance to meet others and learn from their experiences. The CTA program is not just training, it’s a certification. Completing the program means receiving a credential and accompanying initials that can be used behind your name – go ahead, try it out (e.g., Jim Smith, CTA). The Columbia Convention and Visitors Bureau presents the official CTA designation on behalf of the Tourism Ambassador Institute, the national oversight body for the certification program.

You won’t need to be reminded that in 2020 Unbound - like so many other festivals and cultural events - was the victim of the COVID pandemic. We still mourn all the authors who were scheduled to join us that year, and so it’s especially sweet when we manage to bring one of them to Columbia for another year. That’s the case with the brilliant Idra Novey, who is something of a triple threat. Read more about Idra and her work: www.unboundbookfestival.com/blog/idra-novey

It may not be a Stanley, but our CoMo tumblers are still pretty great! (and you won't get beat up trying to buy one 😜)

We have hit $7,500 in donations (!!!), and this means that it is our absolute pleasure to announce that next year's keynote speaker will be Emily St. John Mandel!

Emily is the bestselling author of numerous novels, including Station Eleven, The Glass Hotel, and (most recently) Sea of Tranquility. Her novel Station Eleven, which was a finalist for a National Book Award and the PEN/Faulkner Award, won the 2015 Arthur C. Clarke Award, the Toronto Book Award, and the Morning News Tournament of Books, and was adapted into a limited series for HBO. A previous novel, The Singer's Gun, was the 2014 winner of the Prix Mystere de la Critique in France. Her short fiction and essays have been anthologized in numerous collections, including Best American Mystery Stories 2013. She is a staff writer for The Millions.

We can’t wait to welcome Emily to Columbia. Tickets – which, as always, will be free for everyone – will be available for reservation in early 2024.
