The South Carolina coast has been recognized as a prime tourist destination in the United States. Our visitors experience the charm of our communities with their remarkable restaurants, shops and beaches. When they return home they spread the word about our Southern hospitality, our memorable businesses and our beautiful cities. However, what tourists today may not realize is that as we approach t
he end of this century their grandchildren might not have the same wonderful experience in South Carolina. Many of our cherished communities will be impacted by the rising seas. The South Carolina Businesses Acting on Rising Seas (SC BARS) Project is a way of educating local residents and our visitors to the risk of a rising ocean. We are calling on all businesses along the South Carolina coast to carefully consider this opportunity. There is no fee for participating in this project - we are only asking businesses to place a piece of blue tape, stamped SCBARS.org, on their window or doors. Our goal for the SC BARS Project is to raise awareness and gather everyone's support to preserve and protect our coastal communities. We want our visitors to be advocates for a new energy future for our country - a future that will preserve South Carolina so that it will continue to be a splendid place to live and visit for generations to come. SCBARS is sponsored by the South Carolina Small Business Chamber of Commerce and the American Sustainable Business Council.
