Meet eight-week-old Willie Edwards, a silver lab who lives with his adoptive parents in Italian Village. Willie was taking in the sights and sounds (and smells!) of our neighborhood Saturday afternoon.

In 1938 Helen Winnemore opened “The Afternoon Shop” in her Grandview home. Now Helen Winnemore's is located in the heart of German Village, offering usable, wearable art. This photo of Helen was taken in 1975.

Chimney pots became popular in the 19th century when people burned coal to heat their homes. The clay pot was added to the top of the chimney to extend the chimney height, and carry coal fumes further away from the house.

We don't know exactly what to make of this, but we still like it.

As seen on Mohawk Street before this week's thaw, a google-eyed, mask-wearing, Prussian helmet-sporting snowman with a bottle of spray cleaner in one hand and a mop in the other. Clearly, this guy was ready to take on the coronavirus.

Lang's Stone Yard supplied the cut stone steps and carved stone lintels on homes throughout German Village. It is still in business today, located in the nearby Brewery District.

About Us

German Village Tours is owned and operated by John Clark and Gail Stoy, two German Village residents who are passionate about their neighborhood. John and his wife Jan have made the Village their home for the past 26 years. He has written a history book, German Village Stories Behind the Bricks, which details many fascinating tales about this special place. Gail and her husband, Frank, are also active in German Village. Gail is an educator, and has spent her career teaching children and adults. Both Gail and John have led numerous walking and coach tours through German Village and remain committed to its preservation.
