We’re in the middle of Summer travel season with long airport lines, cancellations and delays, and throngs of tourists. Swipe for our best advice to make traveling this Summer as stress-free as possible:
✈️Arrive early
For international flights, arrive at the airport a minimum of 2 hours before your flight or you could be denied boarding. When flying out of major European cities, arrive at the airport 3 hours early. Allow for even more time around July 4th and Labor Day.
✈️Pack Light
Increased numbers of travelers means it’s easier for the airlines to lose your luggage. Go carryon only if you can to eliminate this chance. Besides, you don’t want to drag a huge suitcase everywhere you go.
✈️Double check your passport
Most countries require passports to be valid for 6 months beyond your return travel dates. Make sure the name on your airline ticket matches the name on your passport exactly.
✈️Book activities in advance
Major tourist attractions require advance reservations. You can’t walk up to the Colosseum or the Louvre without a ticket reserved ahead of time.
✈️Choose less popular destinations
The Amalfi Coast in Summer is off the charts pricewise. We have lots of suggestions for less pricey destinations with equally stunning views.
✈️Don’t wait until the last minute to plan

When are you taking the cruise of a lifetime?
Natalie is in Greece this week exploring a few new places and enjoying a mix of sightseeing and laid-back relaxation at some exceptional 4 and 5-star boutique hotel-resorts. This time around, I’m staying close to Athens: aside from the capital (which is one of my favorite cities and not to be missed!), I am staying for 3 nights on the island of Spetses and 2 nights in Mystras, a small mountain village near a famous ancient monastery and castle near the city of Sparta.
On my way from the Athens airport to Spetses, my driver-guide stopped at the impressive Corinth Canal (there is a fantastic cafe there) and then stopped for an hour at the ancient archaeological site of Mycenae (Greek pronunciation: Meekeenees!). I climbed to the top of the citadel and admired the incredible mountain panorama of the beautiful Peloponnese landscape.
Onwards to the coast: Spetses is another 1 hour and 45 minutes away, but if you have time or energy you could opt to stop at so many famous ancient sites conveniently along the way: Nemea, Tiryns, Epidaurus, Argos, and the lovely town of Nafplio. I recommend at least buying olive oil and/or Nemean wine from the region while you’re there.
Spetses is accessed from the coast of Porto Heli, a resort town of its own with many villas, yachts, and hotels. A 10 minute water taxi (no need to pre-reserve) gets you to the small island which has a legendary reputation in Greece. More on that later…
It is shoulder season now, so prices even at the grand dame of island hotels, the 5-star 110-year old Poseidonian Grand Hotel, are extremely affordable. The hotel has multiple restaurants, a beautiful lounge, an indoor and outdoor pool, full service spa with hammam, and almost all rooms have sea views with terraces. It is worth planning to have few plans here: bring reading material, swim gear, and a budget for shopping at the island’s exquisite boutiques, and it will be a worthy escape.
Just a few highlights from the past several days in Mexico. Mexico is so diverse with so much to offer! Some of the best resorts are located on amazing beaches surrounded by jungles of vegetation, not to mention the abundant Mexican and Mayan culture and history. There's really something for everyone here!

Iceland's Blue Lagoon is currently closed due to volcanic eruption, but the rest of the country is still open! Hvammsvik is Iceland's newest hot spring located about an hour north of Reykjavik. Hvammsvik is a much more intimate feel than touristy Blue Lagoon or Sky Lagoon, and TimeOut Magazine even listed Hvammsvik as the #1 thing to do in the world in 2023. There's incredible mountain views, and you can step right from the hot springs into the ocean water if you're feeling brave!

This coming week is predicted to be one of the busiest ever for travel with TSA expecting over 1.1 million passengers. If you're going to be flying this week, here's how you can be better prepared: 🦃 The busiest domestic locations are predicted to be New York, Orlando, Miami, and Las Vegas, so allow yourself extra time if you're flying back from one of these locations. 🦃 Consider booking (or switching to) an early morning flight. Flights get backed up as the day goes on, so the first flight of the day has a lower chance of delays or cancellations. 🦃 Looking to travel with your Thanksgiving dinner? If it's solid food it can go through security, but TSA says "if you can spill it, spread it, spray it, pump it, or pour it, and it's larger than 3.4 ounces, you'll have to check it." 🦃 The less you can bring in your carryon, the faster you'll get through security. 🦃 Arrive at the airport earlier than you think you need to, and have fun!!
Everyone wants to go to the top of the Eiffel Tower, but some of the best views of Paris can actually be found elsewhere. By going to some of these locations and climbing to the top, not only do you get a great view of the city, but you'll also have the Eiffel Tower in your background. The view is always beautiful during the day, but if you visit at night and time your visit right, you can see the Eiffel Tower sparkle!
Located an hour outside Paris, Versailles is a must see when visiting the city. You can get here easily by taking the RER train.

1. Make sure you have long enough layovers! Airlines will allow you to purchase flights with 45-30 minute layovers, but that's not enough time to make your next flight. 2. Be sure to arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before an international flight. At some busy airports in Europe, arriving 3 hours early is recommended. Otherwise, your checked bag might not make it on board and you could be denied boarding as well. 3. Download the airline app. Downloading the app will send you notifications of any potential flight changes. 4. Consider TSA PreCheck or Global Entry. It can be worth it to skip the long lines at security and immigration.
