Ephesus is one of the most spectacular ancient cities in the world!

Located on the western coast of Turkey, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is full of history and culture, offering a glimpse into life during the Roman Empire.

You can take a walk through the ruins including the Library of Celsus, The Great Theatre, Temple of Artemis, and the Ancient Agora.

Ephesus is often visited on a cruise through the Greek isles, or be sure to make a stop during your land trip through Turkey.

There's no place on Earth quite like Cappadocia...whether you're watching the sunrise over the fairy chimneys from a hot air balloon, or wandering through ancient cave dwellings carved into the rock, landscapes here are otherworldly.

One of the most iconic things to do is take a hot air balloon ride. Get up early in time for sunrise, and you'lll get to witness hundreds of other balloons floating over the rocks and the colorful sky. A bucket list moment!

Some shots of the more modern side of Tokyo. Tokyo is such a unique city that's a fusion of modern and traditional culture. Being the largest city in the world, you can spend an entire day exploring each of the different neighborhoods.

Spend a day in the bustling area of Shibuya and the evening in Shinjuku, known for its nightlife. Be sure to spend time in the upscale Ginza shopping district, Akihabara electronic district, Asakusa downtown district with temples, and trendy Shimokitazawa with thrift shopping.

Effective now, an ETA (digital travel permit) is required for U.S. citizens traveling to the UK. This ETA is required even for travelers who have a layover in the U.K.

Applying for a UK ETA is entirely online and paperless. American applicants can complete the application online in less than 20 minutes. It generally takes three days to process an ETA application and costs £10 each.

The European Union countries are working on their own ETA that that should roll out sometime in 2025, stay tuned for more details.

Happy New Year from Japan!! New years is the biggest holiday of the year in Japan, making it a unique time to visit.

On New Years Eve, people visit the temple for the first temple visit of the new year, called Hatsumode. Long lines form at temples and shrines for the first visit of the year on January 1st. There are lots of celebrations with vendors selling street food, and you can buy good luck charms and fortune-telling paper strips – called omikuji.

People also head out to see the first sunrise of the new year, known as Hatsuhinode, symbolizing a new start.

Most stores and restaurants are closed for the holiday on January 1st, making it a good day to get out and see some temples.

Day 1 in Japan...lots of temples and shrines. Shrines follow the shinto religion, where temples are buddhist. Shinto is considered Japan's indigenous religion, and during the Meji restoration, Shinto was divided from Buddhism.

You can tell them apart because the shrines have shrine gates called Torii at the entrance, which are usually red-colored. Temple gates are a lot more complicated structures than shrine’s Torii.

In 2024, travel to Europe remained strong as always, and Asia boomed. We saw increased travel for events, as well as increased travel spending overall. Swipe to see our predictions for where and how people will travel in 2025:

1. Travelers are looking for more personalized, high-end experiences. Instead of being on a large ship with over 2,000 fellow travelers, consider a smaller vessel that will be a more intimate experience. Travel around the world with only unpacking once, and visit more destinations that are not accessible by large cruise ships.

2. We predict all-inclusive resorts will boom next year as bigger hotel chains open new all-inclusive resorts for the first time. All-inclusive resorts are becoming more luxurious and high-end.

3. S.K.I., or "spending kids' inheritance," a term coined by booking.com to describe baby boomers' increased travel spending. Post pandemic, travelers are not putting off taking their bucket list trips.

4. Travelers aren’t necessarily going for destination “dupes” and skipping the popular destinations altogether, but are instead adding on a more off the beaten path destination after visiting a major city. After Paris, travel to Reims for a few days. After Tokyo, visit Fukuoka.

Paris’ Notre Dame Cathedral is finally reopening! After almost 5 years of construction, the inside of the cathedral will be reopening to visitors starting December 8th. Following an inaugural week from December 8 to 15, Notre Dame will resume its daily schedule starting December 16. Entrance will remain free of charge.

Pictures are from a year ago when the cathedral was still under construction. A lot of exciting activities in Paris recently!

Black Friday shopping isn't over yet. Tomorrow is Travel Tuesday, a term coined in recent years as research shows that some of the best travel deals of the year fall on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. We could see lower prices on cruises, hotels, tours, and potentially flights. It's Christmastime in Paris!

Christmas is an incredible time to visit Paris with decorations and celebrations. Some of the best shopping is located in Place de la Concorde in which all the high end stores have their windows decorated for the holidays. There's so much to do this time of year from Christmas markets, to holiday displays and lights, to concerts and shows.

In 2024, Japan saw a 47% increase in tourism from the previous year, with even more growth expected in 2025. With a weak Yen and overcrowding in major European cities, travelers are turning towards Japan. Top locations for a first time visit include modern Tokyo, traditional Kyoto, and the foodie city of Osaka. There's so much more to see, though, including Mt. Fuji, Hiroshima, Okinawa, and skiing up north in Hokkaido. So many great reasons to visit Japan in the off season! The weather in Tokyo is a lot milder than in the midwest, with average highs around 50 degrees in December. On average, Mt. Fuji is only visible for visitors 20%-30% of the year. December is actually the best time of year to see Mt. Fuji, with a 68% likelihood of the entire mountain being visible. The mountain also has its iconic snow cap during this time. No matter what time of year you go, early morning is best for visibility as clouds tend to roll in in the afternoon.

Interlaken area is often called the adventure sports capital of Europe, and for good reason! There is so much to do here other than just hiking. You can go paragliding, biking, canyon swinging, cliff walking, and climb a via ferrata. The Murren-Gimmelwald via ferrata starts in Murren and takes around 2.5-3 hrs as you make your way across the iron rungs towards Gimmelwald. It’s accessible for beginners due to the iron rungs and ladders attached to the rock gface. Then when you’re done, take a 5 minute gondola ride back up to Murren.
