Thanksgiving Week Nature Journaling Prompt Part 2 - Connect to the Land with your Senses
After you have found a Sit Spot (see part 1), its time to lean into your senses to observe nature around you. Spending time using our senses to observe our natural surroundings connects us to nature on a much deeper level.
When you find something that you feel connected to, add it to your journal!
What did you journal about? Show us your journal pages or describe what you connected to in the comments below!
Thanksgiving Week Nature Journaling Prompt Part 1 - Sit Spots!
Have you ever used a sit spot?
Whether its somewhere near your house that you go regularly, or a spot you only use once while traveling, sit spots are a great practice to slow down and connect to nature, especially during the holidays when life can get overwhelming.
Where are you going to make your sit spot? Add your pictures or tell us about your spot in the comments!
Trail Tips Hydration!
It's Trail Tips Thursday and we are talking about Hydration! As one of the Ten Essentials, it is so important to make sure you carry enough water for your adventures to stay safe in the backcountry.
It is recommended you bring at least 1 liter of water for every 5 miles you plan to hike, plus extra for hot days, hard hikes, or higher elevations.
How do you usually carry water on your hikes and backpacking trips? Let us know in the comments!
Nature Journaling! Did you know, sitting down in one place and really paying attention to the details around you is one of the best ways to connect to nature?
I used to think the best way to connect to nature was by moving in it. While I do really enjoy hiking and trail runs, nature journaling has recently become a favorite way to connect to nature.
This is what nature journaling looks like for me. If you're interested, I would love for you to join me in a weekly nature journal practice. I'll even provide the theme each week!
This week's theme is leaves. So get out there and record a leaf that grabs your attention.
If you want to share your journal, feel free to post using #naturejournaloftheweek but remember, it does not matter what it looks like! The most important part is getting outside and observing the world around you. Happy Journaling!
Happy Indigenous People's Day!
We highly recommend finding Indigenous voices to follow and incorporate into your knowledge base today and every day.
You can find the tribes that were the original stewards of the land you live and recreate on by visiting native-land.ca
What are your adventure goals?
Whether you are wanting to bag that peak, get on harder trails, or be able to hike for longer, here are some of the things we do to train.
Add weight on shorter walks on difficult terrain. Full water bottles, soup cans, rocks and sand are great things you might have at home that can add some weight to your pack. This can be done outside on a steeper hill, on the stairs at a local stadium, or in the gym on an inclined treadmill or stair stepper.
Go on hikes/walks on easy terrain for longer than your goal hike. Want to be able to hike that 6 mile trail? Try to walk on the treadmill or around your neighborhood for 8 miles.
And of course, get out there! One of the best ways to train is to do. Go on shorter hikes with similar terrain and enjoy being outside.
Whether you would rather spend time outside getting a sweat in, or slowing down to pay attention to the details around you, we are excited to have you join us tomorrow, Saturday, October 5th for one of our classes! Fall colors should be gorgeous at Pine Valley Ranch Park for our Take-Off Party. Then join us for a BBQ lunch and raffle. Can't wait to see you there!

Happy St. Patrick's Day! (Don't pinch us, most of our adventure gear isn't green...)
They say the leaves of the four leaf clover stand for faith, hope, luck, and love. We feel these the most when we are on trail, exploring nature. No four leaf clover needed!
Do you feel the depths of those things when you are in nature? How do you connect to faith, hope, luck, and love?
Anyone else spend the snow day dreaming of what adventures they will be going on when it is safe to get outside??
We would love to hear your plans! Comment what adventures you have planned for all this snow.
