TROPICAL STORM ADVISORY

Port of Galveston tenants and vessel operators in the area are encouraged to make storm preparations and closely monitor Tropical Storm Francine in the Gulf of Mexico today.

The system is forecast to further strengthen into a hurricane early Wednesday. Landfall is expected between East Texas and western Louisiana Wednesday into Thursday. The track of the storm will be critical to the impact on Galveston.

Depending on the track, Galveston has a 30 percent chance of tropical storm force winds (>40mph) arriving overnight Tuesday. Coastal tides are expected to reach 4 feet above mean low tide. Drivers should be aware of potential road flooding and plan accordingly.

The U.S. Coast Guard, which controls vessel activity in Galveston Harbor, has initiated an advisory for vessels to begin making plans for departure and for vessels and facilities to initiate heavy weather plans.

While there are no disruptions to vessel traffic in Galveston Harbor at this time, expect suspended vessel operations as the storm approaches. Also, port staff is not accepting new berth applications at this time.
