I secured impressive footage on August 24, 2024, of two large sharks competing for the same fish, while on a dive with four special forces marines, who added to the intense ambiance, and I captured this extraordinary moment. 💙🍼🦈 Baby Silky Shark Valentina! Cutest Baby Silky Shark We Met On Our Last Dive! She Even Gave Us Two Tiny Teeth!

The baby silky shark’s scientific name is Carcharhinus falciformis. Silky sharks are typically found in tropical and subtropical waters. Babies are often found in coastal nursery areas then venture out into the open water like this little girl. Baby silky sharks have smooth, sleek skin, giving them their “silky” name. They are usually dark gray or bronze on top and have a lighter underside. They are born measuring about 2.5 to 3 feet in length and grow rapidly during their first few years. Conservation Status: Silky sharks are currently listed as “Vulnerable” by the IUCN due to overfishing and bycatch.

🌊 Today, we successfully dehooked a resilient silky shark, highlighting the vital impact of our conservation efforts. Fishing hooks can cause serious injuries, infections, and disrupt these sharks’ natural behavior, posing a significant threat to their survival. Each dehooking helps restore their freedom and ensures the health of our marine ecosystems. 🦈💙

* Disclaimer: This photo features a trained professional safely dehooking a shark while wearing protective chain mail. Please do not attempt this without proper training and equipment. Respect marine life and always prioritize safety.

👀 Notice Cristina’s Spots! What Are They? ❓🙋🏼‍♀️

Lemon sharks have light skin dot pigmentations, often called “freckles” or “dermal denticles,” which serve several purposes. These pigmentation patterns can provide camouflage, helping them blend into their sandy or rocky environments and avoid predators or sneak up on prey. Additionally, the dermal denticles can reduce drag and increase swimming efficiency by reducing turbulence as they move through the water. These features contribute to their overall survival and effectiveness as predators. Cristina has the highest concentration of all our and is by far the prettiest! 💕🍋🦈

In this photograph, a professional shark handler is depicted in a serene underwater setting, carefully dehooking a shark. The handler is equipped with specialized tools and protective chain mail from demonstrating expertise and precision in handling the task. The shark, a magnificent and powerful creature, is captured in a moment of vulnerability as the handler gently removes the hook from its mouth. The scene conveys a sense of respect and responsibility towards marine life, showcasing the delicate balance between human intervention and wildlife conservation. This serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of proper shark handling practices and the between humans and these awe-inspiring creatures in their natural environment.

**Disclaimer: Do not attempt to dehook a shark or interact with these animals in the wild without proper training and equipment. Our handlers are in chain mail. Sharks are powerful and unpredictable creatures, and handling them requires expertise and precautions to prevent serious injury or worse. Always respect marine life and follow guidelines for safe and responsible diving.
