Last night, our friends in the town of Ovid suffered a tremendous loss, when a massive fire destroyed 6 buildings, including the Big M Supermarket, Uptown Diner, Italian Kitchen, and a number of apartments, displacing 15-20 people.

If you've visited the Seneca Lake Wine Trail, you've likely passed through Ovid, if not stopped for a bite at the diner or Italian Kitchen, or to grab some snacks at the grocery store.

In our rural area, the firefighters are volunteers. They battled this blaze for many, many hours overnight, in brutally cold temperatures and high winds. Our immense gratitude and respect is owed to them.

We know our followers have amazing hearts and love this area as much as we do. If you'd like to help, please see the United Way of Seneca County page.

Catholic Charities of the Finger Lakes will coordinate the collection and distribution of financial support for those affected.

Looking to add a fun cocktail to your holiday celebration? Check out this recipe for a French Toastini from Terence at J.R. Dill Wine Bar in Watkins Glen, NY. This Bourbon-based cocktail adds a fun, sparkly twist that’s easy to make and yummy! Cheers and Happy Holidays! FRENCH TOASTINI COCKTAIL RECIPE 2.5 oz bourbon or rye whiskey 3 dashes Angostura Bitters 1.5 oz egg white 1/4 oz maple syrup (or more to taste). Dry shake all ingredients first and then shake with ice. Strain into a coupe glass, garnish with French Toast Crunch Cereal. and serve.
