It’s incredibly difficult to get back into the normal swing of things after going through a tragedy like we experienced last week. We are still in shock, we are emotionally and physically exhausted, and we are grieving. But there are still horses here that need us and who give us a reason to get up and get moving every morning even when it’s really, really hard.

Life does go on.

So with that in mind, today we’d like to introduce everyone to the newest member of the Corolla herd, a c**t named Ember. He was born the first week of July and at a month old is a big, healthy foal with a very bright future ahead of him.

Ember has everything he needs to grow up into a stallion who will one day produce foals of his own - an experienced mother who is taking great care of him right now, a habitat that provides him with plenty of food and fresh water, other horses who will teach him the ins and outs of being a wild horse, and survival instincts that have been passed down through many generations. It is up to all of us to make sure that Ember is never threatened by the things that we humans can control. That includes giving him plenty of space and never petting or feeding him, driving slowly and being aware of our surroundings at all times, cleaning up after ourselves, and being good stewards of the environment.

Every single person who sets foot on the 4x4, be it tourists or full-time residents, property owners, daytrippers, contractors, and everyone in between, has a responsibility to follow the rules and keep these horses safe. Please help us make sure that Ember’s future stays as bright as it is right now.

It is going to be extremely hot today. If you see horses on the beach it’s because they are trying to find relief from the heat and biting flies. Please do not crowd them, chase them, or harass them in any way. These rules apply at all times, but are especially important to remember today. Heat stress can lead to serious, potentially fatal health complications. Please be safe out there today! 🏖️

As we head into the holiday weekend, a reminder to please celebrate safely! Keep your distance from the horses - 50ft at minimum and remember that apples, carrots, or “treats” of any kind can be deadly. Drive cautiously and please air down your tires so the beach and sand roads aren’t damaged. Thank you for helping us protect the horses and their habitat while you are here visiting! 🏖️

Welcome to the world Ezra… ☺️

Join us in welcoming the newest member of the herd, a c**t named Ezra. He was born about a week ago to a very experienced mother and both are in excellent condition. All of this mare's other foals have been black with no markings so we were excited to see that this little guy was not only chestnut, but also has a star on his forehead. Color and markings make absolutely no difference to the horses, but they sure make it easier for us to identify them when they're older. 😉

If you are lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the family, please remember to stay at least 50ft away from them at all times regardless of whether you're on foot or in a vehicle. Crowding them can cause unnecessary stress and can also habituate the foal during this very critical stage of his development. Causing a traffic jam around the horses is dangerous for them, other drivers, and pedestrians - please be sensible, respectful, and law-abiding if you are driving on the beach this spring and summer.

Ezra is the third foal born in 2024. The first was Eros, a c**t born in February, and there is one other foal that we estimate to be about a month old. We have not yet been able to determine if it's a c**t or a filly. That group lives primarily in the marsh and we do not see them often, but they did bring the foal out to the beach very briefly one afternoon a couple weeks ago. Mom and foal both look healthy, which is the most important thing!
