Many people think the Outer Banks closes in winter, but that’s not true. While some places shut down, many restaurants stay open, offering great seafood and local dishes without the summer crowds. The OBX hosts winter events like holiday markets, oyster roasts, and the Winter Lights festival at Elizabethan Gardens, along with local art galleries and craft fairs 🎄
Winter brings activities like shell hunting on quiet beaches, bird watching, and exploring nature reserves. Museums and attractions, like the Wright Brothers Memorial and the NC Aquarium, are open year-round. Although it’s cooler, OBX winters are mild, allowing for fishing, kayaking, and even surfing (with a wetsuit).
