A friendly reminder that there are many faux accounts out there in the Book Face land. Many fake photos, videos and stories to fan the flames when things are not quite so dramatic… please do not perpetuate them. Especially the ridiculous photoshopped and AI photos and videos. They make our actual local photographers and artists lose hard earned income opportunities from keyboard cronies! 😀👍

Some big fish tales from the Outer Banks have recently taken off on social media like they’re riding the East Australian Current in “Finding Nemo.”

Please fill in your holes! We get it, it’s fun to play in the sand, but leaving holes on the beach poses a huge safety hazard to our lifeguards and beach patrons. We have ATV’s and rescue vehicles patrolling the beach all day. If a guard fell into a hole while driving they could be seriously injured. Sand is very unstable, so holes are dangerous because someone could fall in and the hole could cave in on them. So, if you dig a hole please fill it in. Remember that in Corolla any excessive or unsafe digging or piling of sand or leaving any hole unattended for any period of time is illegal. Help us keep our beaches safe!

At our home, we recommend our guests shelter in the bottom floor of our residence, in the laundry room, bathroom, or hallway interior by the stairs, as these are away from windows.

Via U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) in Wilmington NC: Today is the day of the Statewide Tornado Drill for the Carolinas. SC drill will be at 9 AM and NC at 9:30 AM. Think about where you would go to be safe. Make a plan. Check out ready.gov/plan for more info.

We love walking over and supporting Uncle Ike’s year round. They have been very good to us as a family even in a pinch. Corolla Light loves having them cater events when available, too. We hope all of our guests visit Uncle Ike's Sandbar & Grill in season, and now in the quieter months when there are fewer options open. It is such a nice walk from the house and they have all the sports on their TVs! They always have delicious food specials and as someone who has Celiac in the house I can HIGHLY RECOMMEND their options. Support the small businesses that keep our community great. 🌅 🌾

Happy Fall!!!

Through Columbus Day (October 9th) we will have 3 lifeguard stands up

Corolla Village Road (Lighthouse)
Bonito Street
Currituck County Southern Access (Bathhouse)

We will still have lifeguards on 4-wheelers and trucks patrolling all the areas in Corolla, including page outs on the 4WD beach

As the fall season continues, we should start to see larger surf and pronounced rip currents.

ALWAYS swim with floatation

- this will also call the lifeguard
Also be aware of your address/ milepost number so we can get an accurate location

And remember SWIM NEAR A LIFEGUARD

We encourage our Corolla Light Resort neighbors & any of our friends north and south on 12 to please participate in this endeavor!

We have a favor to ask…

Now that our local sea turtle nests are starting to hatch, we would like to ask everyone staying in oceanfront properties to turn off any indoor or outdoor lights that may be visible from the beach. We are asking this favor because when the hatchlings emerge from their nests, they are very sensitive to light and can become disoriented and follow these residential lights up into the dunes, rather than head down into the ocean. So could you please help us ensure that all our local hatchlings safely make it into the ocean and turn off all outdoor lights on decks and pools, and close the blinds or drapes on all levels of your house after dark ?

The Currituck County Ordinance is stricter than the North Carolina fireworks ban, due to the extreme fire risk fireworks create at the beach. ALL fireworks are banned, including explosive caps, snake and glow worms, smoke devices, noise makers such as party poppers and string poppers and sparklers. (Currituck County: Sec. 9-4., Ord. of 11-6-95)
