It's quiet on the Outer Banks, so we're taking a week off! All web orders placed between now and November 18th will ship on the 19th!

And then watch on the 20th. Cassie's been working on a batch of tie dye, and we'll have roughly 3 dozen shirts for you!

Here's another happy moment from the Cape Fear Kite Festival last weekend, when a sweet couple was enjoying the show at the pier on Friday!

Don't forget that we'll be closed next week, starting on Saturday. We updated the shop hours on Google and Facebook to show us as temporarily closed, but have no fear! We'll be back the week before Thanskgiving with more kites and a bunch of tie-dye shirts! If you place a web order while we're out of town, it'll ship with we get back.

We're here til 4 today, and for most of the day tomorrow, and then we'll be closed till the 19th!

Last up for today is a 5 stack of Prism Nexus kites set up and ready to fly! They have their stack lines attached and leading edges assembled to aid in ease of assembly for you!

Most of the kites have bridles still attached, but one does not. Some of the kites are in like new condition, some are used. The main wear points are on the leading edges of a few kites where the stack lines have worn (shown in the second picture). The sails are in otherwise great condition. This wear will not affect the flight of the kites, but we'll include a length of ripstop tape in the package in case you want to seal it off.

The package comes with one original nexus bag with lineset for flying a single kite. You will want to use a heavier lineset than provided to fly the stack complete!! It also includes a duffel bag that the original owner used to keep the stack assembled in the bag. The last photo shows bags next to stack.

Need a package of great entry level kites to teach people how to fly? This is the package for you! We've included 4 kites in this package, ideal for someone who loves to teach kids!

All kites are small sport kites that will fly quickly, but framed in fiberglass so they're ideal for beginners. No linesets are included, so we've included a second listing for 65'x100 # lines with straps in case you need to add that on.

Original HQ Salsa in very good condition. Shows enough sand on the tape of standoff tabs to show evidence of flight, but I'm overall great condition. New lineset (100 #) and bag included.

A reminder to our friends overseas - if you want to purchase any of the kites that we're showing, please send us a message with your address so that we can get a shipping quote for you. Because rates vary so much, we are unable to assign flat rate shipping values to boxes leaving the country.

The last listing today is for a like new Trick and Track. Designed by Jon Trennepohl of Skyburner Kites and produced by Premier Kites, the T&T was a favorite of Eliots for years!

This is in the best condition we've seen in years! We're calling this like new. Sand on sail is only sign of flight. Nose and leading edge show no signs of damage. Brand new lineset included.

Update - sold!

Prism E2 in Very Good used condition. Nose shows very light wear. Leading edge in great condition. Sail is a bit soft, so it's had air time. Brand new lineset. Ferrule previously lost glue connection and was glued back in place.

This kite is previously loved but presents as like new. Sail is super crispy, it looks like it's never been flown. In "throwback" colorway. Original owner had it signed by John Barresi. Includes original bag and unused lineset and straps.

First up for our first batch of previously loved kites is a 3 pack of Quantums set up for stack flight! These are original Quantums with a 7 foot wingspan and carbon frames. They are in like new condition with only the middle kite showing any flight with some sand on the sail. The original owner treated these kites with love!

It was a fantastic weekend at the Cape Fear Kite Festival! We saw friends from both the kite community and also some guest appearances from friends we've met in the shop! Cassie managed to lose her voice (is anyone surprised?), so we're calling the weekend a huge success! Big thanks to the Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce for hosting one of our favorite weekends of the year!

Just a heads up that we're open through Friday this week, and then we'll be closed all of next week. We'll be open again from the week before Thanksgiving through the end of the year. You can expect a tie dye release the week before Thanksgiving, and a ton of previously loved kites through the end of the year!

Watch this space over the next few days, we'll be posting the first handful of MANY previously loved kites that we picked up this weekend for you!

This is an index of the various Compass Rose Mesh Quad-line kites we've built over the years. Each photograph identifies the kites by number and "version" (40%, 75%, 100%, 135%, 175% or 240%). Note that each kite is unique with it's own particular set of colors and pattern - there are no duplicates. The CR-II kites are smaller (72" leading edge) than the typical 1.5 size.

If you've been watching for a t-shirt restock, we picked up a handful to fill in the rack this week. Most will be released as tie dye in a few weeks, but solid colors have been loaded onto the website! We'll ship web orders in the first week in November, so if you order in the next week or so, you'll see tracking on November 5th.

On that note... don't forget that the shop will be closed until Friday!

Hey friends, happy Friday! A few announcements for y'all today.

Next week, Cassie will be out of town all week for a little travel and then the Cape Fear Kite Fest. Eliot will cover the shop on Friday & Saturday, but we'll be closed for most of the week.

If you're going to Cape Fear and need Cassie to bring anything, please let her know by tomorrow morning (Saturday 10/26) at the latest so that she can get your items into her car! Please note that if you place a web order next week, it will not ship until the following week.

When Cassie gets back to town, you can expect another batch of previously loved kites (mostly dual line), she'll be picking those kites up on her road trip. There's some gems in there, lots of Prism, but a few other brands in the group, too!

Also, for those who have been patiently waiting for tie dye, you should see that in November. We've got a huge batch of white tees that Cassie will be adding color to over the next few weeks. When we've got a fair number made, we'll release them all together. There are no custom orders at this time, but you're always welcome to suggest your favorite color combinations!

Fun fact - the 10' Turtle pictured ships in a 56" box!

Why are we telling you this? Because of this news that we just received.

"Effective immediately, UPS has changed how they weigh all packages greater than 48” long: ALL PACKAGES GREATER THAN 48” LONG WILL BE CALCULATED AS EITHER A MINIMUM OF 40lbs. OR ACTUAL WEIGHT, WHICHEVER IS GREATER."

Ouchhhhhhhhh. Most of our packages are 4lbs or less. To add 36lbs to the weight by default doubles or even triples the cost. 😬

So, this basically means that we can still use USPS for long boxes, but no more shipping extra long kites via UPS. This also means that for the foreseeable future, we'll only ship boxes 48" and shorter internationally since we only use UPS for those shipments.

For now, USPS allows us to continue flat rate shipping for all orders within the United States. But please be warned that if they follow UPS, we'll need to revisit that for extra long boxes. But as Cath and Eliot often say, "we'll cross that bridge when we come to it".

Happy Tuesday, friends! This morning, we've been working on housing for the Fun Fly next March. If you want to be in the kiter houses, please let us know asap. We're getting those houses booked and it looks like they're either full, or we may have 1 room left.

Happy Saturday, friends! Fall is one of our favorite times of year, with the days cooling down and the breezes picking up! Here's a view from the beach access by our house towards the west at about 730pm a few nights ago.

Cassie added a handful of items to the website today, including sand anchors, 7'9" Delta Conynes, Great Winds kite kits, and more! We'll be closed tomorrow and Monday (as usual this time of year), but starting on Tuesday she'll work on adding the rest of the shipable kites to the website, and then maybe we'll get some games added! Any requests for favorite games you'd like to see on the website?
