***Please read the entire post before commenting or sharing. A horse has NOT died recently. We are using Two Sox’s death in *2013* as an example of why it’s so important to drive carefully and be aware of your surroundings. Media outlets, please be responsible when sharing this. Again, a horse has NOT died recently. This is simply a PSA.***
On May 26, 2013 at 11pm, the magnificent stallion Two Sox was tragically hit and killed while standing on the beach. As we head into this year’s Memorial Day weekend, and the official start of the summer season, we'd like to remind everyone visiting the 4x4 to please drive safely. Please do not speed, and absolutely do not drink and drive. You put yourself, other drivers, beach-goers, and the horses in danger.

Remember, it's illegal to come within 50ft of the horses. Do not approach, entice, or harass them - bring a zoom lens and enjoy the horses in all their wild glory! They may often look docile but they are wild and can be unpredictable and dangerous. And never forget, apples and carrots can and will kill them. We lost a yearling c**t last summer when he choked on an apple someone fed him.

We know this isn't the most uplifting Friday post but it's imperative that visitors to the Carova area understand how critical it is to follow the laws and respect the horses' space. Your life, and the lives of the horses, could very well depend on it. Let's have a safe, fun, and uneventful summer!
(Before a ton of comments get posted - the beach here is a road. It is the only way residents and renters can get to their homes. Beach traffic is a part of life here, and always has been. Arguing about whether or not traffic should be allowed on the beach is not productive and takes away from the message we are trying to get across. Thank you for keeping your comments respectful.)
