Our mission is to provide a platform from which students of all ages can both learn and enjoy learning by experience. This platform is useful to both k-12 students and also research students and scientists. We offer a wide range of experiences and experiments.

This is Ben. This is ben's new pet blue crab. He was so enamored of this crab we talked to his mom and they set up a salt water tank for this crab. We have never let a student take home one of our animals but we made an exception for Ben. When a student expresses this much interest in an animal you have to foster that! Ben and mom, we hope this leads to a life long love of crabs!

We are looking for a deck hand for the coming season and beyond. Experience is not needed. We can train the right person. Biology would be a plus.

If you are or know someone who might be interested call Capt. Whitney at 361 717 4176

This would be especially good for someone who is interested in being a captain to acquire sea time or a Captain needing to stay current.

Beautiful delicious swimmers. That's the translation of their scientific name.

For the safety of the animals we have students wash their hands before touching the animals. Sunscreen, lotion and hand sanitizer are all bad for the fish!

Hello and we miss everyone!!! A quick update on the Archimedes. Since we dont have trips we are taking our time in the boat yard.

The Coast Guard finally gave us approval to finish, replace the railing and paint over the repairs, only three small repairs thankfully! We hired a professional to strip off all the bottom paint to bare glass and repaint the bottom. We are adding 8 gallons of new bottom paint of different types. This will be hard or non ablative paint. The boat had more than 1/4 inch build up. It will also be faster and more fuel efficient.
We are also taking this time to upgrade the steering and electronics. New steering heads and fittings as well as control cables and lots of new grease. New jack plates, for skinny water ;)
A new networked 7 inch screen and sonar, viewable by students. We will also be putting a screen on the back deck accessible to students. This system monitors everything. The motors feed data into it as well as gps and eventually radar, which we dont have yet. It even has a full sound system built in with mic inputs for adding narration. It also allows monitoring from my phone from anywhere.
With new motors and everything else the boat will be completely renewed and updated when it hits the water again.

The Aquarium dock is completely destroyed. We tied pieces of the dock to the edge to use as fenders. The best we could do is tie the boat to the fence. Now all we can do is hope the damage is minimal. Cross your collective fingers!

We had so much fun introducing our salt water friends to students up river in San Antonio!! Our goal is always for students to fall in love with these critters so that they will protect them by being aware of what goes into the river and eventually into the sea. Thank you San Antonio River Foundation!!!
