Little brother and girlfriend hiked into Gleason lake yesterday. Looks like it was a gorgeous day to go!
I had the privilege of hunting the Robinson Ranch this past November. In just two half-days, the experience was incredible and one I will not soon forget! The elk season in Montana to that point, had been a hard one for most. Hot, sunny, dry days were the norm and the chance of snow pushing herds out of the high country seemed nonexistent. Tired of competing for the few highly-pressured elk spending any time in our usual haunts, my hunting partner and I decided to visit with the Robinson family regarding hunting their ranch.
The family was fantastic to deal with. They were friendly, their prices were reasonable and they worked hard to accommodate our schedule and to help us be successful. Moreover, what the property provides in the way of elk habitat is nearly perfect. Though not the largest ranch around, it is sizable enough that an abundance of wildlife take refuge there from the surrounding more-heavily hunted public lands. Its makeup consists of ideal elk habitat, and perhaps more importantly, is optimal hunting country. A good mix of open, gladed timber, cool creek bottoms, grassy ridges and gentle grades make nearly all styles of hunting viable. In our two short days on the ranch, we had opportunities at bulls each day and saw numerous other species, including one close encounter with a massive, mountain whitetail buck. Even when game wasn’t visible, the property’s incredible beauty and views would rival any Bugle Magazine cover, leaving us feeling eternally hopeful.
In the end, I was proud to harvest a decent bull. It was far from the largest seen. I had squandered an opportunity on the first day, though and wasn’t about to do it again. After my shot, at least 2 or 3 more bulls emerged that would best my own. Next year.
Check out who's been spotted on the ranch!

Thoughts and prayers going out to everyone that has been affected by the Roaring Lion Fire. Check out this video - not sure who to credit but the pure power of the fire is crazy.
Well yesterday was all about fencing and today is all about cutting down trees! We did have some time to just watch the clouds go by though.
There has been talk of cutting this tree down for some time but we had to wait for the master to arrive! Great job Uncle Josh!
