ACTIVITIES
Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport, OR (updated) - we hadn't been to the aquarium since 2021 so it was so fun to return because there are soooo many new things to see! This is only 45 minutes from Corvallis and it’s definitely worth the drive (unless you have kids that get carsick because it’s a bit curvy).

All your favorite animals and then some. Sea lions (our girls favorite), sea otters, octopus, sharks, birds, fish galore etc. It is partially outdoors so don’t forget your rain gear as you need to venture outside for sea otters, sea lions and the aviary exhibit.

Make sure you get to the shark exhibit as you walk through a tunnel of ocean life: Sharks above, below and around you 😳Also, the new jelly fish exhibit was great! Lots of fun and new jellyfish I have never seen before - such a great addition!

If you have little ones, we saw lots of strollers and wagons but be aware, the outdoor paths are gravel/sand combo so be ready to off-road but there are ramps to everything.

Recommendations:
- Pack a lunch and eat in the outdoor area OR
- They have a new restaurant you can buy lunch there OR
- take your lunch/takeout to Nye Beach/Agate Beach/etc
OR
- (our personal favorite) we go early to the aquarium then head right across the street to Rogue Brewery on the Bay - great kids menu and super kid-friendly with beautiful views and good beers too!

PROS:
- A new playground opened since we went in 2021 so the girls were in heaven!
- The new jelly fish exhibit (opened Halloween 2024) is a great addition
- The deep sea tunnels are always a hit as fish/sharks are swimming above, around and below you!
- So much area to run - keep an eye on your kiddos as lots of curves and turns between exhibits so easy to lose them quick
- The touch pool was amazing - our girls got to touch, urchins, starfish/bat stars, sea cucumbers, crabs, etc

CONS:
- It is 45 minutes away so it is definitely worth planning but so fun
- Like any special activity, it costs more than we expected so if you plan on going a couple times in a year, check out the memberships because it will save you money in the long run

PARKING:
- Lots of parking and FREE (check out the wall that had life-size images of animals just past the sea nettle parking lot)

BATHROOMS:
- There are quite a few spread around the aquarium but I recommend going at the start if possible because the nearest one may be across the way (in the rain).

Looking for something to do with your toddler this winter?!?! Look no further. Coyle Outside will get them going - my girls did this when they were younger and they loved it!

Winter is the perfect time to enroll your littles in Cattail Kids - Toddler Forest Play with Coyle Outside and Corvallis Parks and Recreation!

Toddlers ages 2.5-5 years old will spend their mornings with instructor Vee at Willamette Park exploring nature while making new friends. They will play, build social skills, and learn about the natural world with child-led seasonal curriculum.

PARK: Avery Park Inclusive Playground across from the Parks and Rec office JUST OPENED and it was worth the wait! Everything is new so it is super clean and exciting. Plus, Avery Park is just so beautiful so you can explore for hours!

PROS:
- Inclusive playground so designed for children of all abilities!
- A large covered area which I am assuming will be filled with picnic tables soon
- New bathrooms
- Artificial turf so great for all types of weather
- My girls’ favorite is the “farmers market” house where they had a ball making orders for meals and veggies
- Great for all skill levels - lots of climbing, spinning, running, digging (sandbox) or just sitting
- Educational too - a large board to teach kids ASL and Braille which my girls loved
- Water filling station with fountains and the pump (off for winter season)
- You can make a day out of it with picnics and visiting the rose garden, hiking through the trails or simply just running through the fields!

CONS:
- Artificial turf creates little pieces of turf that can make surfaces slippery in the rain and get in your shoes/clothes

PARKING:
- Lots of gravel parking around the park

BATHROOMS:
- Brand new bathrooms which are lovely. Individual bathrooms (one closed for the season) with changing table inside

ACTIVITIES: Eugene Glow. I had never heard of this and it came across on a Facebook ad so jumped on the early bird special a couple months ago!

Lots of lights and so many beautiful displays. The kids loved having a “passport” and getting their passport stamped in each country.

This is probably better for younger kids as we flew through it (stayed only about 40 minutes) but my girls (6&8yo) still really enjoyed it but worth considering if you have older kids.

PROS:
- Lots of room to run
- Food, drink and art vendors at entrance/exit
- Passport stamping was a blast
- The reenactment of landmarks in lights was impressive
- Lots of fun activities for kids: coloring, playground, letters to Santa, picture with Santa, LED swings

CONS:
- Lines were long at entrance but then it seemed to loosen up throughout
- The event is in Eugene so about an hour from Corvallis

PARKING:
- The event was at Lane County event center so a HUGE parking lot

BATHROOMS:
- There were multiple porta-potties at the entrance along with a large facility in the building
