We can't wait to share all the fantastic events happening in Covington this May and June!
🚜 First up, mark your calendars for the return of the farmers market at the visitor center starting Saturdays, May 11th, 18th, and 25th, from 9 AM to 12 PM. Plus, don't miss out on Thursday concerts on the Square at noon!
🚀 Calling all space enthusiasts! Join us for Cinema Saturday featuring "Light Year" and "Guardians of the Galaxy" on May 18th at 6 PM on the Square.
🚲 Ride for a Cure Bike Fest rolls into town on Sunday, May 19th, with a full closure of the square. And don't forget our Memorial Day ceremony on May 27th at 10 AM, with a partial closure of the square.
🎉 Moving into June, the YMCA Bike Rodeo kicks off at Legion Field on June 1st at 9 AM, followed by Dueling Pianos on the Square on June 2nd at 7 PM.
🧛‍♀️ Vampire fans, unite! Join us for a screening of "Vampire Diaries" on June 6th from 6 PM to 10 PM on the Square, along with the Vampire Diary Convention happening all weekend.
🎶 And for some fantastic live music, catch the Journey tribute band at Live at Legion Field on June 7th at 7 PM, followed by Chris John Scott on June 8th, on the Square!
But that's not all! In April, we welcomed 9877 visitors to the visitor center, and the city is buzzing with excitement with the filming of the new action film "Maybrook" featuring Josh Brolin, coming May 24th!

Last week, the Mystic Grill underwent a transformation. Sweet Magnolias is in the process of filming its fourth season.

This was only for that one day of filming. The Mystic Grill sign is back up currently.

Very cool!

This is the Georgia mansion that Margaret Mitchell hand picked for producers to replicate when they filmed Gone With The Wind. Located in the small town of Covington, Georgia, this beautiful property is now a Bed & Breakfast. I’ve stayed there and it’s amazing! 😄

Covington is one of the places we featured on our list of 25 Amazing Small Towns To Visit in 2024. It's been a filming location for many TV shows and movies over the years. From Dukes of Hazard to In The Heat of The Night and AMC's The Walking Dead series. The Vampire Diaries is hugely popular here!

To boot, they have an amazing town square with historic buildings and some great local restaurants!

Every month the Covington Welcome Center creates a report totaling the number of visitors that come through the doors. In 2021, we had 73,393 visitors walk through our doors only to increase to 96,382 visitors at the Covington Welcome Center in 2022. Our goal for 2023 was to exceed 100,000 visitors...and the final tallies are in with 118,278 visitors in 2023! In December 2023 alone, 14,868 visitors crossed the threshold of the Covington Welcome Center's doors.

According to a report by Tourism Economics analyzing the Georgia Visitor Industry, visitor spending in 2022 in Newton County was estimated at $115 million. There is a positive direct impact (defined as impacting business sales, jobs, income, and taxes created directly from spending by visitors to a destination) in Newton County including a local estimated tax savings of $214.00 per household.

Visitors from all 50 states stopped by the Covington Welcome Center and there were international visitors from Australia, Cuba, Denmark, Dubai, Germany, Iceland, New Zealand, Scotland, South Africa and Sweden...and that's just a fraction of the countries represented by visitors who stopped at the Welcome Center in 2023.

Our staff also enjoys seeing local citizens at the Welcome Center. There are film and tv memorabilia pieces, but a room dedicated to Covington's history will be opening soon. The Welcome Center is open Monday - Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Visitors may initially come here to see where The Vampire Diaries or In the Heat of The Night or Sweet Magnolias was filmed, but our businesses and residents are the reason many people come back again and again. 🥳🥳🥳
