Fun Fact: Falling Spring Falls and Beaverdam Falls are both located in Alleghany County, VA. Though we’re on opposite ends of the County, both Falls are worth a visit. We’re by guest stay or reservation only, but you can book a day pass to visit Beaverdam Falls on our website: beaverdamfalls.com. Falling Springs (the highest waterfall in VA) is free and open to the public, as it’s located off a public road. Beaverdam Falls is private, pristine and there’s lots to see and explore, unlike Falling Spring, which just has a viewing area. Come visit both of us!

After several weeks without rain, we finally had a storm pass through the Alleghany Highlands last evening. Once the rain stopped, it left us with a pretty incredible sunset, full of vibrant orange colors! 🌅

With the support of a grant through Virginia is for Lovers aimed at expanding access to the outdoors, we are excited to partner with Alleghany Outdoors to offer several weekends throughout the summer and fall where you can rent a bike to ride along the Jackson Scenic Trail or a tube to float along the Jackson River at no cost to you!

“The Jackson River flows cold and clear out of Lake Moomaw. So cold and so clear it is a perfect haven for trout — one of the best trout rivers in Virginia. One of the few large enough where you can fish from a boat or a raft.”

Sometimes fishing is like taking a test. You search and search for the proper solution to the problem. Sometimes you pass and sometimes you don't. 10 News Anchor John Carlin tried to make the grade trying to wrangle the trout in the cold clear Jackson River in Alleghany County, Va.
