We recommend having lunch with them over at Warriors Bar & Grill in Crescent City where you can watch elk graze through the floor-to-ceiling dining room windows. An elk viewing trail is in the works too, and will be coming soon!

Who lives on the rock these days? A lot of Steller sea lions! Male Steller sea lions can weigh up to 2,400 pounds, whereas females generally don't get larger than 800 pounds.

The range of the Steller sea lion extends from the north shore of Honshu in Japan to the Gulf of Alaska in the north, down to Año Nuevo Island off the coast of central California to the south.

In 1997 Steller sea lions were listed as threatened under the United States Endangered Species Act, but they were taken off the Endangered Species List in 2013, after a major population comeback over the past several years.

Island in the sun — with a lil’ historic lighthouse on top ☀️

Battery Point Lighthouse is perched atop a small rocky island off the coast of Crescent City in Del Norte County. What makes this historic lighthouse so special is that you can walk to it only during low tide. The interior of the lighthouse is open for tours (look for the monthly tour schedule posted in the parking area 🅿️) Go tidepooling around Battery Point and be sure to bring your binoculars to watch for whales 🐋 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
