One of my favorite Crested Butte houses to photograph meets a glorious fall day. I am thinkig this house won't be there for very much longer, as the chimney seems to have fallen recently. Behind it, Whetstone Mountaon rises to its full 12,500 feet, with the aspens at peak fall colors. My favorite time in Crested Butte.

After way too many hours of dealing with "PC - Lightroom Issues" (read: mostly operator error), I finally edit my first photo of Crested Butte's fall colors. Probably CB's most magnificant fall in my memory.

I am a novice at landscapes, so I am learning how to bracket 3 shots into one HDR photo so as to blend in the high dynamics (different lighting ranges) that you need to capture landscapes. Trial & error meets old dog.

I have two safaris planned for Zimbabwe in August 2026. One is sold out already. Another one is on the drawing board for only 6-10 people. You want to have an awesome experience? Such a sweet safari we had in Hwange National Park. We still have a few places left on our August 2025 safari to Mana Pools and Hwange National Parks, with a few days at Victoria Falls at the end.

Theres a bit of a backstory on this yellow billed hornbill, and the big male lion. It was on just the second day of my safari, when I went to Big Tom's, an elevated hide in northwestern Hwange. From the hide, I saw the hornbill jumping around in the bushes with something in its bill. I got down from the hide to get a better shot of it. As it went from bush to ground to bush I followed it for better shots.

Meanwhile, behind me about 50 meters, this big male lion was completely locked in on me. It was so out in the open that I somehow hadn't seen him when I drove up. "Locked in" is very bad feeling...when something like that is staring at you.

Oops. It was the first of two times on this safari when I got close to a lion that I hadn't seen.

Yeah... these birds are just stunning models. How beautiful is THAT???

I don't think I've ever seen a bird that looked less real that this Great White Pelican. I was able to get super close to it, and captured the detail of his skin and feathers. His hairdo looked like a bad wig!

In my mind, the hornbill is one of nature's most consistent super models. He may not be pretty, but he's off the charts...
