Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike Trails update

Trail Conditions for Monday, December 16
We continue to receive occasional freezing rain/light snow with temperatures fluctuating below and above freezing. Riding was good this past weekend with light snow cover over a layer of ice. Traction was slick in spots but manageable with studded tires and precautions on corners and wood/rock features.
We’re watching the weather for a potential snow producing system coming in Wednesday night and Thursday. We would need 5”-6” of snow to groom. If we get less than that, fatbike and snowshoe traffic would help pack in a base.
If we get enough snow to groom, we’ll post updates on our grooming schedule.
All groomed trails are closed overnight after grooming so they can ‘set up’. The CL State Trail does not close for grooming.

Please be patient once we receive enough snow to groom. For example, if snow is still falling on Thursday late afternoon, we will likely wait until Friday evening to groom.

Once grooming is taking place, it is important to remember winter rules go into effect. Fatbikes only with tires at least 3.7” wide. Be sure to lower tire pressure until trails get packed in. No foot traffic (no shoes or boots) on groomed trails other than the CLST. Keep expectations realistic for early season riding conditions. It takes a lot of fat tire tracks and grooming passes to reach ideal winter riding.

If you are heading to Cuyuna later this week to fatbike, just watch for updates and remember that Snowshoes are always a great back up option.

We currently have 1-2” of snow in the area. There are no tire restrictions in place yet. Winter tire and trail use rules will go into effect once we have enough snow to groom (5-6”). Fatbikes are providing the best grip and studs are recommended as the snow pack on the trails could be slippery in spots (especially wood bridges and rocks!) But again, these are suggested guidelines, not requirements since snow is limited and trails are not groomed.
