Today, I want to give a big shout out to the Creston, NC Volunteer Fire Department. Michele and I have been going there everyday since we could get out of our road last Wednesday. We have seen the same people working tirelessly each day, as well as new volunteers coming in. They are doing everything they can to support the people of our area and doing so in a polite and professional manner. The first day I met Fire Chief Junior Seatz, he was standing with a clip board with people all around him. After a couple of days, he had a chair, after that he had a table, and after that Lauren Sutcliffe was by his side providing assistance. That is dedication. Thanks to all and your efforts are greatly appreciated by many.

Michele and I were at Riverview Community Center in Creston, NC this morning. We saw a whole lot of activity and volunteering. The US Air Force landed a Black Hawk Helicopter in front of the center. US Air Force PJ's (Air Force Special Tactics Pararescuemen) were on board and asked the person in charge what help was needed. PJ's are the Air Force's elite. We also met a volunteer group from Surry County called Carolina.Outdoors. They were out helping cutting and removing trees. Another big group drove all the way from Lumberton, NC to deliver supplies. They were hit hard by Hurricane Matthew in 2016 and they wanted to help in any way they could. They know what it is like. This afternoon, Michele and I finally got a chance to check out our house in Crumpler. We were blessed to find out that it had not been flooded by the river. There was a lot of destruction nearby, including campers, campgrounds, Garvey Bridge Road, and Garvey Bridge (no longer there). To top the day off, when we got home we had power. The power company and the power linemen volunteers from other areas are working hard and fast. We got power a lot sooner than we thought. Finally and most important, we must remember our Ashe County friends and neighbors who lost love ones and who lost everything. They are going to need our help the most. Thanks.

Update, We are still doing good and don't need anything. Michele and I walked through the woods by Rich Hill Rd today. When we got to to bottom where the road intersects, we saw many amazing things happening. Local and out of town volunteers were working on our roads, checking on people, offering food, and water. We even saw people riding horses and carrying supplies in areas no vehicle could travel. This evening volunteers cleared the mudsildes, removed trees, and repaired our road where we can walk on it or drive an ATV or side by side UTV on it. Just meeting with and talking with people is big part of the recovery process. Thanks to all these volunteers and please pray for the people in need.

Hey, Michele and I want to thank everyone who checked on us. We are good and have water, food, a generator, and gas. We just got our WiFi back up and cell coverage has gotten a lot better. We consider ourselves blessed and know there are a lot out there that seriously need help. They lost everything. Mom and Darlene are doing well at the assisted living in W Jefferson. We still have no power and our road is washed out and has several mudslides. We have had several people that have helped us. Great neighbors and church family. We are going to stay put and know that help is on the way. Most of the roads and bridges are dangerous. We will give updates as we can. God bless.
