RIP CURRENT: Stay safe while at the beach this summer, this could save your life. Do you know what a rip current looks like? You have probably all seen them and weren't aware of the danger. When you see waves and then a small section of "flat" waves in between, that's a rip current. The water is moving in the opposite direction. Stay clear of these areas, this is NOT a calm place to hang out with small children.

Galveston County is accommodating due to beach rentals that had already been made. RELAXED ORDERS... read below for the times available ⤵️

Due to the last-minute nature of the beach closure because of outside circumstances, the County is trying to accommodate those who have already rented vacation rentals on the Bolivar Peninsula for this weekend and provide some limited beach access.

Here are the revisions that have been made to the original closure announcement:

The beaches in unincorporated Galveston County, including the Bolivar Peninsula will be closed from July 3rd through July 5th with the following exceptions.

- Daily from 7:00am to 11:00am – Beaches will be open to foot traffic only
- Daily from 4:00pm to 8:00pm – Beaches will be open to foot traffic only

No vehicular traffic will be allowed on the beaches at any time. We are discouraging visitors from traveling to the Bolivar Peninsula this weekend.

Memorial Day weekend is just around the corner and one Bolivar Peninsula realtor says beach cabin rentals have increased on Crystal Beach. The realtor says all homes are being disinfected to ensure the safety of renters amid the coronavirus pandemic. KFDM/Fox 4's Paige Hubbard has the report.
