It’s Mardi Gras once again in Galveston and we’re looking forward to celebrating the season. Revelers at this year’s Mardi Gras will notice some changes the City of Galveston has made as part of an effort to enhance public safety during the annual carnival celebration.

The island’s 114th Mardi Gras celebration begins Friday, February 21, and continues until March 4, or Fat Tuesday. Both weekends will be packed with parades, parties and, of course, beads.

Galveston’s island-style Mardi Gras has plenty of personality. There’s the classic revelry found in the heart of Galveston’s historic downtown district and family-friendly events and parades along the Seawall.

To purchase tickets, view the concert schedule, confirm parade routes and times, or become a vendor, please visit the official Mardi Gras! Galveston website at http://www.mardigrasgalveston.com/.

Please anticipate traffic delays and give yourself plenty of time to reach parade routes. If your destination is the downtown entertainment district, the City recommends drivers take Harborside Drive to avoid traffic and street closures. If you’re planning to stay overnight, be sure to inquire about free shuttles offered from select hotels to the elaborate festivities!

Changes are being implemented to enhance public safety, which include:
👉There will be no motorized vehicles – including golf carts – allowed on the Seawall or 25th Street on Saturday, February 22 from 9 a.m. until after the night parade.
👉Cars parked on the Seawall MUST remain parked through the day Saturday until after the night parade. This means people will not be allowed to move their vehicles parked on the Seawall after the day parade. Participants should plan accordingly.
👉Saturday, Feb. 22, 25th Street from Seawall Blvd. to Market Street will be closed in both directions from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. to safely allow for the passage of parades.
👉Additionally, Saturday March 1, 25th Street from Seawall Blvd. to Market will be closed in both directions from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. to safely allow for the night parade.
👉Officials encourage all revelers if you see something, say something – if you see any suspicious behavior, please find a law enforcement officer and make them aware.
