Been a minute since I’ve been on the water so I used my friends that go every year for Jessica’s birthday to see how things are going. Started off with a 33” Black Drum within 5 minutes then went and caught 15-20 reds pretty easy but no monsters today. Ended up with 6 reds 19-22”. It got too hot to fish calm water so we decided to go catch some Tripletail. First one we saw was 25”+ and ghosted us, then 2nd one we get in is a nice 19”. 3rd one is another monster around 21-22” and it falls off at the boat after a couple jumps. We search a little longer and sure enough get a nice 21.5” tripletail in the box. Very cool to see 4 big Tripletail with only searching for 20 minutes total including fighting them. They asked to catch some smaller drum and we found a pile of them too! Ended up with 5 16-24” Black Drum and released another 10 including a couple more over 30”. Bite was pretty great, weather was great besides the heat for a short period and we all had a great time.

Got some nice Redfish right off the bat this morning then released another 7 or so then looked for Tripletail and went 0-1 unfortunately. Switched up to trout, caught alot of shorts today with 5 bigger sand trout and a couple big seatrout to come home with us. Landed a nice 29” black drum and called it a day, and once again all on shrimp! Thankful for beautiful weather today

Another well rounded day, we did everything I wanted for these guys. Started with a beautiful 35” Snook and a 32” BlackDrum and even got some nice Redfish all before 8am! Knew getting a slam was going to be a piece of cake now so we went and played with Trout till the tide came in some. Found a pile of 13” trout and only a few keepers but they didn’t want to keep many anyways. Now it’s only 930am and I didn’t want to go for reds till 11 so we figured why not go catch some Tripletail! Neither of them caught one before and sure enough found one and caught one within a minute of looking! Now tide is up so we shot in for reds and found a lot of shorts with a couple slot fish here and there nothing too exciting. Finished the Redfish hunt with a nice overslot and a limit and headed back early. Love when we get to do everything and a plan comes together!

Oh and the best part everything was caught on a Shrimp from Hook Line and Sinker bait shop!

Started off with a bang that’s for sure! Then rest of the day not so much…

They both had Snook on the mind so I set out with the goal to get a snook quick on artificial then switch the shrimp for reds and drum for the rest of the day. Got greeted with a nice 15-20 mph wind and white caps at the ramp with an outgoing tide. So I already felt like the world was against us. Changed route in 5 minutes due to the waves soaking them so yea… great start lol started casting plugs hard then everyone saw this massive black drum tail waving at us and Leslie about had a heart attack and went running for a shrimp. SOMEHOW we couldn’t get this fish or any other tailing drum to eat all day!!!! While throwing shrimp at the first drum they managed nice slot redfish, small drum, more small reds and a nice snook tho. Found many other drum and still no takers, then finally we get one hooked up! Then it spits the hook mid fight 🙄 told em it’s ok we’ll get another. Well… let’s just say our luck got a lot worse… heavier winds then rain then calm then heavier winds again then more rain. And no more fish so we went home disappointed to say the least 😂

The black drum were hungry this afternoon! Started this morning with a couple but wasn’t anything crazy, then switched to trout since it was low tide. Got on a nice trout bite after a couple moves at the beginning of incoming tide. Switched to triple tail and found 3 pretty quickly but unfortunately all 15-16”. Tide got right and we caught about 10 redfish and thought we had our second keeper but unfortunately it was 28” and had to let it go. Decided to try drum to end the day and it was several doubles and triples (me included) to end it with a bang! Was hard to get them to go home 😂 Had a great time and great weather!

What a crazy day it was today! Started on fire with big redfish then I started getting calls from other captains and friends worried about me about an insane storm on its way. We were literally on the high of just catching a 30” red and nice slot red back to back and we had to decide to run 10 miles back to the ramp through the storm! Or just stay in the shelter of the mangroves and hide under the Bimini top and pray it passes in the next hour. Decided to play it safe and head to the ramp… and let me tell you the wind came out of nowhere 50+mph winds 4ft waves… talk about putting my skiff and these people through some crazy s*** 😳 anyways we made it back dried off changed clothes and went back after 11 with less water and less time to finish the limit but we got it done. Then played with drum, trout, sharks and Tripletail to make it a pretty good day despite the craziness.

Another incredible day in Yankeetown. Started the morning with 2 26.5-27” reds and a handful of shorts mixed in. Switched to trout and got 20 sand trout for the cooler immediately. Switched to drum and got 5 big black drum and were all done before noon on our schedule full day trip and they were ready to head in! Love when it all comes together even with 20+ mph winds!

I definitely tried to reschedule to avoid one of the windiest roughest days I’ve been on the water! But they had a positive attitude throughout the tough day. Hiding from the wind did pay off since we got to land one of the oldest ugliest looking drum I’ve ever seen! Also landed some nice 19-25” Redfish and lost a slot size Snook after a couple jumps. Caught a trout to make it a slam and even jumped a Tarpon! Despite the terrible conditions we pulled off a decent day!

Did a consult on David’s skiff and the day started exciting with Snook and Tarpon crashing mullet everywhere but we couldn’t get one to hit a plug! Then tried for drum and got catfish 1 after another. They were starting to think all my pictures were fake 😂 couldn’t really even get the trout to cooperate either! Was definitely a rough start! Then switched back to Drum and followed the school a little better and we landed several big 30-34” Drum to get the blood pumping again! Then it was time for redfish, slow tougher bite than previous trips there as well but we plucked a couple slot fish from the mangroves here and there. Kept at it with no action for a minute then cork goes under slowly and bam a stud 31” Redfish comes out of the bushes! Ended the day with a few more big uglies for fun! Now they can’t wait to get their kids and friends out there on some fish.

Another incredible day in Yankeetown! Started and ended the day with a few big Black Drum, loaded the cooler with Sand Trout as usual then went on a Redfish hunt. Caught a couple perfect mid slot reds and a few shorts then stumbled on a school of big overslot Reds fighting each other for our corks! Lost a few and landed a nice 30” multi spot beautiful redfish! Not bad for having 3 kids on the boat! Feel bad for their dad now because the kids are gonna give him a hard time every fishing trip for now on!

Big Shoutout to Hook Line and Sinker for supplying all the bait/tackle I need and Monster Jigs for helping us slay the fish today!

And also my buddy Jon Woods for lending me his spare trolling motor to get me back on the water or this trip never would’ve happened!

Might’ve had the luckiest fisherman on the planet today. We didn’t go anywhere where the bite was on fire, but she literally caught and landed every species that we went for with ease! From top slot reds to Tripletail to Big Drum to a pile of sand trout to sharks to landing a tarpon on a trout rod!! Tarpon was small enough to safely remove hook, get a picture and released unharmed.

Started out struggling to get trout bite and at first I thought I kept seeing dolphin fins and didn’t think anything of it. As I was about to give up and leave I watched and realized it was a big school of drum tailing so we jumped into action and immediately hooked up with big Bruiser Black Drum. After a few of those they wanted reds and man have they been difficult for me to find in April! Caught 5 short reds and I asked them if they wanted to give another Trout spot a try? And we made up for it quickly with 50 nice sand trout in a row keeping the biggest 30. Electric knife made quick work of them and it turned out to be a great day. Thank you again Leslie and Lesley

Another brutal day of April fishing. Weather was much better today but bite was just off everywhere we went! Couldn’t catch a Trout or Redfish if our life depended on it. Managed 5 small Redfish, lost 1 good one. Caught 2 perfect 24-26” medium eater size drum and a whiting for all our efforts. Late afternoon incoming tide is never the same as a morning incoming tide to me. Having no water until noon makes for a tough day inshore. Hope the winds calm down and water temps continue to rise. Fishing should improve soon, one can only hope lol

What an interesting day to say the least. Crazy winds and absolutely no water first 4 hours really couldn’t do anything but wait in the river for tide to change. Fought the wind for some drum at the start of incoming then got on a school of reds in the mangroves to finish it off, caught close to 20 reds all on Shrimp. I hate April but we definitely finished strong!

Zeb is a Trout slaying machine! He definitely won’t let Down Syndrome slow him down, must’ve caught over 50 trout today with a variety of drum, whiting and seabass all mixed in. Had a great time cracking jokes as usual. Beautiful day on the water, hope to see you again soon!

Might be one of the last Sheep trips for 2024 but they’re still on fire! A lot more smaller males this trip but it was also a crazy holiday weekend and boats on every spot we went too so I’d say we did well. Especially for a 21’ Carolina skiff with 2ft+ waves coming over the bow and trolling motor not able to hold us on a spot due to being abused all morning. Then we lost the gps for a little while from the bumpy ride in so we switched to trout and they didn’t disappoint.

Will get back to fishing inshore regularly soon!

Had a 2 man limit of sheep first 2 hours and decided we didn’t need to keep anymore of them so we tried to find mangos and hogfish rest of the day. Ended up with a variety of Grouper, 2 beautiful hogfish, some nice mangos and other random things along the way. Could’ve stayed on the sheep to finish the limit but I like to mix things up for everyone. It turned out to be a gorgeous day!

Day 2 of Sheepshead hunting went about the same as day 1. We tried 10 spots with only 1 hot spot each day. There would be a short period of a decent bite when the school would pass by and then they’d disappear for a bit and if we couldn’t get another bite going we’d move. We had a tough time feeling the Sheeps steal our Shrimp due to strong current and waves we had this morning. The bite completely died when the tide came to a halt mid day. Full moon tides are very strong then very dead just like the bite. With that being said next week after this full moon the Sheepshead bite should be on fire! On a side note Erik did manage a nice 16” Hogfish to go with a nice box of fish after saying all day he wanted to catch his first one!

First Sheepshead run of the year was about as expected with all the slow reports I’ve been hearing. Lost some nice fish caught a few big ones had pretty good weather all day and constant action. Hard to beat this kind of fishin!

Started off slow but Brian put a hurtin on some nice Redfish today on artificial! Let go another 10 Reds and 10 Trout. Turned out to be a fun day despite the 20mph winds and only fished from 9am-12pm

First time back on the water in a while took Kelly, Brody and his friend Xavier. Didn’t know what to expect starting at 830 and only planning to fish to 1230 with 90% rain 20+mph. With that being our luck for conditions I played it safe and fished some easy spots. Couldn’t get a Red in the easy spots but got a beautiful top slot snook, some Snapper then released 20 trout for fun. Just happy Brody got to fight his first Snook and had Xavier there to see it!

We didn’t take many pictures yesterday but man we caught a ton of beautiful Snapper! We easily caught 60+ keeper mangrove snapper and had to stop at 25 because we had 5 nice yellowtail for our 3 man limit. Then got into a pile of lane snapper and told the guys we need to just stop at 20 because I don’t want to clean more than 50 Snapper, we could’ve caught another 50 with ease the bite was stupid good. Caught about 10 keeper Red Snapper for fun and a variety of Gags and Red Grouper as well! Didn’t get a chance to take or picture of my biggest Red Grouper over the last couple years but oh well it was a blast catching about 100 nice Snapper and 50 or so other varieties. Added some delicious big red/blue porgies to the box as well. Did it all in a 2300 Tidewater Bay Boat too!

Even though I haven’t posted much lately the bite is still incredible! Didn’t find the Snook I wanted this morning, it’s not easy throwing lures with 5 people but as soon as the tide came in the Redfish were on fire! Lost count after 30+ 😂 I can’t do a trip without catching a bunch of Black Drum either! Had to throw that in for them.
