BIIIIIG manatee coming up for a breath!! 🤯

Do you see those hairs on the manatees snout? 🤔
Those are sensory hairs called vibrissae! They use those hairs to navigate through the water and helps them learn their surroundings. Manatees have pretty poor eyesight and can only see shapes and colors. 🌊🤿

Tip #2: Keep paddle craft away from rocks, trees and other vegetation.

Any intrusion onto the shore may seem small, but when hundreds of visitors do it, it adds up! Please be mindful of where your paddle craft floats as you enjoy the springs and maintain your distance from the shorelines.

Learn more about protecting Three Sisters Springs here: https://watermatters.org/protecttss

They are staying away from the rocky, forested shoreline depicted in the background. A text overlay states: “Keep paddle craft away from rocks, trees and other vegetation.” Followed by the tag line “Protect Three Sisters Springs” and 3 logos (Southwest Florida Water Management District logo depicting the state of Florida with the district boundaries shaded in gray, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service logo depicting a fish jumping out of water, a mallard flying over the fish, and a sunset background, and the City of Crystal River logo depicting a manatee wrapped in a ribbon with the statement “Home of the Manatee” written across it.)

Fish Fact Friday! 🌊🐟

This huge school of fish are mullet. Mullet are a bottom feeder fish which means they go through the mud and sand to find plant metter and small crustaceans to eat. Eating this way does cause their gills to get caked up with the mud and silt so sometimes we see them jumping out of the water to clear the pressure off their gills.

Do you know what bird this is? 🤔

This is a cormorant! One of Kings Bay's diving birds. To catch the fish they eat, they dive under the water, bring it to the surface and swallow the entire fish! 🤯

Fun Fact! Cormorants don't have the oil in their feathers to keep them dry as they swim through the water. Thats why you may see these birds with their wings spread out standing on docks, trees, or pilings.

It's officially scallop season! 🚤 Here are a few safety tips from MyFWC Florida Fish and Wildlife to remember while finding underwater gems. 🐚

💧 When scalloping in open water, divers should stay within 300 feet of a correctly displayed divers-down flag or 100 feet of a divers-down flag if on a river, inlet, or navigation channel.
💧 Always operate your boat at idle speed when traveling within 300 feet of a divers-down flag in open water or within 100 feet of a divers-down flag on a river, inlet, or navigational channel.

Enjoy the season responsibly and happy scalloping!

Boat Safety 101 📣
Don't forget your dive flag this summer! Not only is it basic safety, it is important to let other boaters in the area that you have swimmers near. With scallop season quickly approaching, be sure you have all your safety and snorkel gear!

Additional boat safety tips:
- While your swimmers are in the water make sure at least one person remains on the boat as a 'look-out'
- Be sure to stay within the 100 ft radius of your boat.
- Keep an ear out for directions from your captian.
- Always be aware of your surroundings!

Stay safe and enjoy the summer!

SeaDaddys Adventures & Dive Center

We now offer snorkel training and free diving introduction course, performed by a Life Guard we have on staff. please contact us for details.

SeaDaddys is located Downtown Crystal River Florida “Home of the Manatees”. Our Scuba Diving Services includes Dive Training, air fills and a Retail store where you can upgrade your Dive Gear today. We are open 7 days a week. If you decide to train with us you will automatically be enrolled in our V.I.D. program (very important diver) you will receive no less than 10 % off new gear purchase’s, free air fills and much more. To become a diver and achieve your first dive certification, you must complete online dive fundamentals training, next you will join us for 2 days of training, diving both days, successfully completing this training will provide you with your “Open water Dive Certification”. Some divers choose not to increase their level of diving certification and are completely content with the Open Water Dive Certification level, and that is just fine many divers prefer this level of training especially if their love of diving for example is reef diving most reefs can be visited in shallower depths. However if you feel you want to increase your dive education we can provide training up to Dive Instructor. Please remember increasing your dive education does not mean you have to reach deeper depths, on the contrary it may mean for you that you would prefer to simply have more dive knowledge achieving a higher certification is just a bonus. For other divers it may mean increasing your dive certification as a career move, diving for a living has a nice ring to it, at times this can be a demanding career however a very rewarding career. One of the most important things to remember no matter why you dive, is to Just Keep Diving!

Our Manatee swims and other tour options are also available 7 days a week all year. Provided with our manatee swim tours is manatee and sea life education session. We want everyone to enjoy swimming with the manatees in Crystal River Florida while we provide the needed protection for the manatees. When the swims are conducted correctly it is a great experience had by all participants. Manatees can be curious and swim up to you, others pretend you are not there and continue that days journey with out even stopping to say hello, other manatees seem to ask for attention that we are not allowed to give for example over the years many manatees have stayed at our boat patiently looking right up to you from the water for minutes at a time as if they are asking for someone to come in the water to play or swim with them.

On a manatee swim tour our guest float at the surface in the Spring Fed waters, manatees have been known to swim underneath them or snuggle up against you. Despite manatees massive size they can be so kind and funny. While being in the water with these animals should always be considered a special time or event, when you become “the” guest that the manatee just can’t seem to leave you a lone and continues to swim up to you and roll over in front of you, it is simply Amazing! Swimming with the manatees is unlike any other animal encounter or excursion you may be inclined to participate in. Join us today.
