You may have or not noticed but the vacation rental industry has changed drastically the last few years. Most of all the mainstream sites for listings have been bought out by bigger companies like as Expedia. In return they charge travelers upwards of 9% or more on top of the rental and cleaning fees.
We as owners already pay each listing site owners fees that’s equate to millions of dollars for these sites. As an owner I think it’s not fair that the traveler has to pay a service or booking fee when in essence I have already paid it for you.
I’ve always handled my bookings personally thru PayPal saving my travelers those fees. The current models of VRBO are changing forcing my travelers to pay those fees.
Most homes have their own direct booking websites. When you find a home you’d like to rent on the big sites, google the homes name to see if they have a website. It’ll save you some major money. Always use trusted pay sites that do not share your banking info such as PayPal.
I’ve finally published mine and hope it proves fruitful. My home will still be listed on such sites at vrbo, HomeAway, Airbnb, and others.
Thanks for stoping by and here’s to warmer weather!
