An absolute must-do while visiting Custer State Park is driving the twists and turns of this enchanting road, Needles Highway.

Deemed “impossible” to construct by its critics, Needles Highway (SD Hwy 87) was completed in 1922. Its an impressive 14 mile stretch that includes sharp turns, narrow tunnels, granite spires and world class views.

The Evening Lighting Ceremony at Mount Rushmore National Memorial is back this Friday!

Make plans to join us for the National Park Service's most attended evening program - the Mount Rushmore National Memorial Evening Lighting Ceremony. This program takes place each night during the summer and begins with a ranger talk, continues with the film "Freedom: America's Lasting Legacy" (captioned) and culminates with the retiring of the American flag by our country's service men and women, the singing of the National Anthem, and the lighting of the sculpture.

May 24 - August 10 beginning at 9:00 p.m.
August 13 - September 30 beginning at 8:00 p.m.

You won't want to miss this deeply moving and patriotic event. Plan your stop to see this national monument in a whole new light.

Away from it all in the Black Hills.

Introducing *drumroll* our brand new cabin, Custer Lookout Lodge! Close enough to town to walk to dinner, but tucked away in the outdoors. Check out this landscape. Booking link in our pinned post, available on VRBO. Tucked into the granite outcroppings in the edge of Custer is a secluded log home on a private acreage. It is surrounded by pines and granite outcroppings with no neighbors (except wildlife) in sight. You’ll have complete privacy, yet is within walking distance to downtown Custer with ice cream, restaurants, and music venues. The home is a 100-year old rustic log cabin which has a large modern addition opening out to wrap around decks that where you can watch the wildlife and enjoy the view. It has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and can sleep up to 9 people. The updated family room had vaulted ceilings and a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace. The kitchen is newly upgraded and well equipped for family style cooking. The den has a large TV and foosball table to keep everyone entertained after a day of sightseeing and hiking. Custer is the perfect, central location for your Black Hills getaway. This home is 24 miles from Mt. Rushmore, 15 miles from Custer State Park.

Took my 96 year old Mom and my sisters for a drive though Custer State Park last Sunday. Guess the buffalo thought we needed a car wash.
