YUKON HISTORY: Along The Chilkoot Trail: Then and Now
When the Klondike gold rushers reach the summit of the Chilkoot Pass, they were met by the Northwest Mounted Police ( forerunner of the RCMP) who imposed custom duties and provided an element of safety and security.
The old photo highlights this situation in 1898/99. Note the terminal of the commercial tramway system for gold rushers who could afford to move their ton of goods and food (mandated by Canadian authorities) by tram over the Pass.
The more current photo shows the remains of the terminus building today. Interestingly, note how the landscape has not changed since the original photo was taken.
You can join our Chilkoot Trail adventure ( https://bcyukonadventures.com ) and experience much of the landscape that challenged the gold rushers. The trail is an outdoor museum to this epic journey.
YUKON HISTORY: The SS Keno, for most of its career, transported silver, zinc, and lead ore down the Stewart River from mines in the Mayo district to the confluence of the Yukon and Stewart rivers at Stewart City. It was retired in the early 1950s and took its final voyage from Whitehorse to Dawson City in 1960. There, it was restored by Parks Canada and now stands in acknowledgment of the riverboat contribution to the history of the Yukon.
Take that voyage at https://youtu.be/TW-qgqmqIUw

I was looking at some photos from trips past. I needed to connect to a time and place of freedom of mind and body. The sound of the surf. The feel of the sand below my feet, the wind and mist on my face, the camaraderie of others sharing the challenge of the West Coast Trail, fuels my resolve and spirit.
I pray that you and yours will come out of Covid-19. unscathed. I hope that you have a mindful place that brings you resolve and spirit.
