Active listening: A skillset I’ve been practicing intentionally in my personal life. I’ve been told for years I have the gift of gab but not always the best listener🫣😔
So I took it upon myself to start actively listening to anyone I encountered and practiced the skill set with them. It may have been in-person, virtually or on the phone.
Then, I decided to do life group sessions, listen to audiobooks, read and build on what I learned. What I realized you have to allow people to finish their thoughts when speaking. Be slow to speak and quick to listen James 1:19 paraphrase what the person says and do check-in as your speaking to make sure you are on the same accord. Finally, eye contact, body language and reassurance when actively listening. These are my own observations and something I am always doing to become a better listener, leader and effective communicator.
