SR500/800 pros: been noticing that the outer surface of the bean is charred while the inside isn’t as done. Any tips on evening out the roast?

Question to the Coffee Growers in This Group: Does climate, the use of fertilizers (organic or otherwise), and soil quality play any role in the coffee profile/notes one gets at the end? or is it only a factor of the coffee tree variety? In other words if you have two identical trees planted in two different soils and climates, would they yield beans with different notes to them?

I’m wondering who the espresso fanatics are in here, and what type of grinder do you use? I’m particularly interested in grinders that are capable of grinding light roasted beans to an espresso grade. I personally have a Ceado E92 that I paid so much for, unnecessarily and I don’t like it’s performance.

Just received this roast from “Verve” of Santa Cruz, CA. They’re my favorite roaster and coffee shop in the whole nation... the beans are from Guatemala and smell fragrant like flowers. Cant wait to try them in the morning.

My Behmor Roaster finally gave up with a zap: it literally blew up due to an electrical short inside it.

I wanna try and build my own roaster. I don’t feel like spending several hundreds on another roaster. If anyone has a good DYI roaster building page or YouTube videos I’d appreciate sharing it.

How is everyone doing :-) Any good roasts? I have personally been a bit lazy about roasting new beans... perhaps because I am not fond of the Behmor roaster that I have so I've been hitting the local roasters in DFW for fresh coffee.. One of those days when I become rich i'll upgrade to a higher end drum roaster...

I'm wondering if anyone in here have built their own coffee roaster from scratch. I currently have a Behmor but not super happy with it. And apparently getting a high-quality roaster is not cheap at all.
