Little veterans hunt today that happens each year for a single day a week after season ending. My HS/College buddy who went Army (😩) vice the right Service, and who hasn’t shot in over 25 years, Mitch Josh, joined and had a ball. No wind, warm, sunny; not ideal but made it happen.

Gorgeous day but the ducks did very little flying today; slowest day by far with only 4 birds taken. James did shoot a beautiful wood duck , though.

Tried to get the most common drakes at the Club in 7 shots but never got a shot at a mallard drake. 6 of 7 anyways and a good way to see relative scale; the Pin is a bit on the large size but the others are average sized.

Tried to hunt the “snow” arrival that would then turn to freezing rain. Well, no snow, freezing rain falling, fast hunt, 10 minute walk back with everything icing fast!

Odd day but beautiful out once the sun warmed us up a bit (25). Winter wheat hides the ice/snow well. Ice-skated to one of our little ponds and enlarged a small hole at 1:15; over in less than an hour. Ice-skated back watching geese and only fell once.

We usually don’t post much on the Club site and especially not frequent quantities of birds as it sends the wrong message. It’s about being out there, not numbers. Folks have PM’d asking if we do get good numbers and most days yes, we do well. This year has been slower but still a good morning take with James.

Pretty good season wrapped up at end of Friday, 10 March. Last week a little slow with rain, rain, rain, but a couple of drier days and they wouldn't get out of the way as cleanup was underway. Plenty left for next year, it appears. 😉
