Our adventure this week starts off on the beautifully isolated island of Rangiroa. It is about 208 miles northeast of Tahiti Ot is also the largest atoll in the Tuamotus and one of the largest in the world. Rangiroa is known as the 'vast sky'.

It is a mecca for divers & snorkeling, with a diversity of marine life that is truly spectacular: manta rays, dolphins, sharks, napoleonfish…etc. The vast turquoise and blue lagoon has a multitude of small motu, including one with pink sand. Rangiroa has plenty of treasures for you to discover both at sea and on land.

Do you know the difference from being a Wanderluster versus a tourist.

Split may best be known for the ruins of the Palace of Diocletian (built 295–305 AD). Collectively with the historic royal residences, fortifications, and churches in the city, the palace was designated a UNESCO World Heritage in 1979. Dubrovnik is a quant seaside town with beautiful red roof & green window-shutter houses along the Adriatic Sea.

Once a historic and picturesque town on the Dalmatian coast, Dubrovnik was also a major tourist resort until much of the town was destroyed during the 4year war between the republics of Croatia and Serbia (Homeland War of 1991)

In the recent decade, most people recognize Dubrovnik as the prominent Game of Thrones filming location since Season 2 and the Croatian city is a must-visit for any Game of Thrones fan. After all, Dubrovnik is King’s Landing, the capital of the Seven Kingdoms and you will recognise Fort Lovrijenac (also known as the St Lawrence Fortress) as the Red Keep.

Today is one excellent example of a real exchange of cultures, a Croatian cooking class & meal at a traditional Croatian farm which has been passed down from generation to generation of one family since 1570.

Agroturizam Kameni Dvori teaches cooking classes of a healthy gastro-amazing cuisine from a farm to table unforgettable dining experience.

During our 4-hour cooking class/meal, I made bread from scratch, picked the farm fresh vegetables & fruits from the organically grown garden, pick some grapes for the wine & went thru the winery process. Then we prepared the meat and much more.

While the food was cooking, our host explained his family's long history in Croatia and the traditions of raising a family in their culture.

Croatia was one of the six republics of the former Yugoslavia. It shares borders with Italy, Slovenia, and Hungary to the north and with the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (Serbia) and Bosnia-Herzegovina to the east and south.

Our tour starts off in the popular sea port city of Dubrovnik.

This view is from atop the mountain at the museum focusing on the Homeland War (1991-1995). You can see the famous enclosed Old Dubrovnik surrounded by the 13th century walls (1930 meters) and the famous island of Lukrum.

Kanazawa is known for its samurai districts, stunning geisha culture, and top-quality seafood dishes, but what brings the most visitors during autumn time is the Kenroku-en Gardens. With breathtaking fall foliage, glistening ponds, gushing fountains, and intricate statues and structures, this beautiful oasis is a must-see.

Not all travel days are picture perfect, inorder to be able to enjoy your wanderlust adventure you must be willing to adapt & enbrace the experience provided to you. . .this experience will evolve into a great story to tell family & friends later.

The beautiful snow-covered scenery of our day tour of Kenroku-en gardens turned into a heavy downpour of rain (melting all the snow) & high gusting winds.

Kenroku-en, one of Japan's "3 best landscape gardens" and by many considered the most beautiful of them all.

The statue is of a Deitie who created Japan. . .the statue is made of a special formula of copper & tin to keep pigeons from resting on him (and leave behind droppings)

The 3.5m shooting water fountain pictured is the oldest fountain in Japan.

The Motoya Ishiya ryokan has been providing this type of unique experience for over 200 years in the tranquil mountains of Kanazawa. The classic architecture with a Noh stage, garden, and Japanese-style baths.

Rooms have a tatami (woven-straw) floor and low furniture with traditional futon bedding. Yukata robes & getas (sandals) are provided.

If you truly wish to enjoy your time while exploring the vast & unique areas of Japan, then the best option is by way of the high-speed Hokuriku Shinkansen (aka BulletTrain).

The Hakutaka BulletTrain has 4 classes of service (Gran, 1st, Reserved & Un-Reservered). I had the benefit in riding in the ultra-comfortable Gran class. The seats are Kawaski plush 3/4 lay-flat loungers in a 2-1 configuration with a max of 18ppl in the cabin.

The aerodynamics of the train was inspired by Japanese engineers studying the flight efficiency of hummingbirds. Refer to the picture below showing their similar airflow design.

Transfer time (Tokyo to/from Kanazawa):
a. BulletTrain Express - Kagayski (only 4 stops) 2.5hrs (3x faster than bus)

b. BulletTrain - Hakutaka (multi-stop) 3hrs

One of the many highlights of visiting an Asian country is the esquite details in the carvings & design of the temples.

There are 3 temples and shrines in Tokyo
(Sensoji, Meiji Shrine and Zojoji). during our vacation. Sensoji (Asakusa Kannon Temple) is an ancient Buddhist temple and Tokyo’s oldest and most popular. This was dedicated to the Kannon Bosatsu, the goddess of Mercy.

Near the front of the temple was a giant incense pot with an inviting aromatic smell. Many people surround the pot and fan themselves with or inhale the smoke. The smoke has been blessed and is supposed to have some healing powers.

A day in Doha is not complete without an evening stroll thru a Souq. The nightlife has some of the best people watching until the wee-hours of the am.
