Dallas music lovers now have a new and ultimate vinyl destination. Spinster Records opened on October 17, under the direction and vision of owner David Grover. David Grover led a vibrant 30-year music career in Los Angeles as a rock & roll showman (Loud Sugar, Drop, The Fizzies), DJ (DJ Freakstyles), writer, producer and club promoter. Along the way, Grover gained extensive music retail experience

boosting sales for large retail outlets. Now that Grover has settled in Dallas, he will fulfill his dream of owning a specialty curated vinyl store in the Tyler Davis area of Oak Cliff. Explains Grover, “Spinster will be more tightly targeted to the tastes of the local Dallas music scene. Our local focus will give us the ability to react quickly to our customers' desires and requests. We will have a certain aesthetic that will become a place to explore and find out about new local/national/international music.” Another promise: no dusty record bins. It says, 'I really love this music.' ˮ

Spinster's new and used vinyl selection focuses on records that sound especially good on the analog medium, and in addition to a stellar vinyl collection, Spinster showcases the hardware side of vinyl with turntables and vintage gear. “A lot of stores sell turntables, and some specialize in vintage gear. We will be taking a serious showroom-styled approach to our audio side,” says Grover. “It will be one of the only places I know to feature an array of turntables – brands such as Rega, Pro-ject, Thorens, Music Hall, – in an array of price brackets. We will have beautiful tube pre-amps, amplifiers, speakers, and additional vinyl record accessories all with a 'sounds great and looks great' ethos.”

Spinster also offers music-inspired fashion, such as sunglasses and apparel, curated by musician/fashion publicist Caroline Rothwell. Here is Grover’s scenario for an ideal Spinster Saturday afternoon: “In-store performance/record signing from national/regional acts about to play that night at The Kessler Theater or coming through town; couples strolling in from Davis Street Coffee. They are trying on some sunglasses, picking up the new St. Vincent record. A young girl is getting her first entry-level turntable. We are taking in a turntable for repair – we will have repair services too! We are buying someone's old collection of '90s alt-rock on vinyl. We hear the sounds of the latest Little Dragon vinyl release getting mixed into an older Gillian Welch track into a Flying Lotus track into a classic Hi-Records b-side of Al Green. That night, we will have one of the many local breweries come host a record listening party at the store.”

Hey folks! here! I think I’m going to be back on Tuesdays for here on out. Ladylove continues to be magic, but I’ve really missed it here. Spinster will always be my happy record shop home. 🪩 Whenever I came in today I saw this new album on the wall and it reminded me how much talent exists inside DFW. produced on here. Some of the studio musicians are from ♥️ We have a lot of local talent. So I highly suggest buying this album because it is a showcase of talent that’s scouted within this metroplex. Also Orville Peck is a Cowboy dream who does. This albums available on our website as well. I’ll be here till 5

“I read about the afterlife, but I never really lived more than an hour” …this line always hits me like a ton of bricks. “Take This To Your Grave” was such a profound album for me and I honestly didn’t understand the gravity of the lyrics when this released as a kid. I think I was about 12 when this album came out and going through my own prepubescent angst—fall out boy had my back. As an adult, I’ll still put this album on repeat for days. “Saturday” is probably one of my favorite songs of all time…it’s about feeling like a failure and was almost left out of the album. To me, it feels more like an ode to keep on going, to have fun, to enjoy life, and to live in the moment. As serious as it all sounds, it’s still pop and punk and catchy as hell. It’s also number 5 on the list of 50 greatest pop-punk albums—it’s an album to take seriously. Have a listen if you haven’t. Grab in store or online (limited copies available).
