Fiftieth Anniversary of NHS

The NHS says to watch for a special event on July 4, Hawthorne's birthday, and to have virtual watch parties of film adaptations of Hawthorne romances, stories, and tales this coming year, in addition to virtual lectures planned for this fall.

Also, watch next year for a NHS anniversary lecture in Salem in conjunction with the ALA Conference in Boston. Bob Levine will speak on "Haunted Houses: The House of the Seven Gables and Uncle Tom's Cabin."

The house Hawthorne and his family lived in at 18 Chestnut St. in Salem is now for sale.

18 Chestnut Street in Salem is a six-bed, six-bath home where Nathaniel Hawthorne lived with his family from 1846 to 1847.

Tours of the Old Manse (https://thetrustees.org/event/82161/ ) in Concord on Saturday, Dec. 10
Hear stories of the house residents which include Hawthorne and his bride, Sophia. They arrived at the Old Manse by carriage after their wedding in Boston on July 9, 1842.

Hawthorne Film Festival at Cinema Salem

The House of the Seven Gables is partnering with Cinema Salem for a month of film adaptations of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter and The House of the Seven Gables.
