Tragic Double Incident Shocks Danville Community: Grandmother Found Dead, Grandson Struck by Train

On Friday afternoon, Dec. 6, a quiet neighborhood on College Park Drive became the scene of a chilling discovery. Danville Police were called for a well-being check at the home of 81-year-old Patsy Scearce, only to find her lifeless body with severe trauma. Adding to the shock, earlier that day at 11:46 a.m., a train in the city reported striking a man who had walked directly into its path near West Main Street and Booth Road. The injured man, identified as Scearce's grandson and housemate, 35-year-old Barry Pyron Jr., has now been charged with second-degree murder.

Details remain limited as the investigation unfolds, leaving the community reeling from the tragic events.

BREAKING: Caesars Delays Casino Opening, NBA Legend Dennis Rodman to Headline Event 🎉🏀

The grand opening of Caesars Virginia Casino has been pushed back to December 17th, five days later than planned. But the wait will be worth it!

Kicking off at 10:15 AM, the celebration features a supercar parade with Virginia International Raceway and more, ending at the casino. Dennis Rodman, five-time NBA champ, will serve as Master of Ceremonies and place the first-ever bet at Caesars Sportsbook.

Doors open at noon, with an epic fireworks and drone show lighting up the sky at 8 PM. The temporary Danville Casino will stay open until the new venue launches, having already raked in $66M in gaming taxes since May.

A new safety program called Operation Lockout has been launched with the goal of reaching senior citizens, those with disabilities, and others through a faster response for service.

Through this safety program, participants will be provided with a lockbox to keep a key to their home in a secure location that will only be accessible by officers. The locks were generously provided by Lowe’s Home Improvement, The Home Depot, and Harbor Freight.

Operation Lockout was created due to a need for quickly reaching seniors who may be alone and cannot get to the door. By having ease of access, this program could reduce costs suffered from having to break a window or bust through a door to reach someone having an emergency.

Anyone interested in Operation Lockout should contact Danville Police Department Crime Prevention Officer Ernest Coppage (434) 797-8898 ext. 3 to learn if they qualify or for additional details.
