Today we welcomed in over 100 teams to the for the 2D World Series Baseball tournament! The majority of teams traveled from out of town, many of which were visiting Daphne for the first time! Teams were greeted with welcome bags complete with suggestions for where to eat and play in Daphne in between games. A huge thank you to our hospitality and restaurant partners for offering special discounts and accommodations to our 2D Baseball Tournament guests!

Have you seen how beautiful Bayfront Park looks after the recent upgrades and improvements by the ? It is absolutely stunning! 😍 The improvements included a rebuilt road from Main Street to Bayfront Park, additional parking, burying the utilities underground, decorative lighting and landscaping, a roundabout at the end of the road made with pretty brick pavers, clearing the waterfront to allow for a more direct view, a new bathroom and pier repair.

The City of Daphne and Sandy Sansing Ford Lincoln invite the public to celebrate the installation of the Yancey Crane Cemetery historical marker at 10:00 AM on Thursday, June 6, 2024.

The historical marker pays tribute to many African-American and white Daphne settlers whose burials are indicated by records and gravestones dating back to 1860 or earlier. Early settlers, both Civil War and World War I soldiers, formerly enslaved persons, and others who lived during the height of the Village, as Daphne was once referred to, are buried here. William R. Yancey, a drummer for General James Wilkenson in the War of 1812, is buried here. Amey Greenwood Phillips, who was illegally captured in Africa and brought to the United States in 1860 on the last known slave ship, the Clotilda, is also buried here. Phillips was later enslaved at the then-Greenwood Plantation in present day Loxley, Alabama.

In recent years, research and ground penetrating radar indicated 200 or more people are buried in this cemetery on land now owned by Sandy Sansing Ford Lincoln who purchased and erected a monument in 2023 to honor the known and unknown who are laid to rest at this location.

The Yancey Crane historical marker has been erected through collaborative efforts of the City of Daphne, Sandy Sansing Ford Lincoln, and local Daphne residents and historians dedicated to preserving our historical heritage. It is part of the Alabama Historical Commission’s historical marker program.

The dedication ceremony will be held at the Yancey Crane Cemetery site, located at Sandy Sansing Ford Lincoln, 27180 US Highway 98 in Daphne. Special guest speakers will include Daphne Mayor Robin LeJeune and Mr. Sandy Sansing. Refreshments will be served following the ceremony.

Discover Daphne welcomed travelers and tourists today for Tourism Day at the Grand Bay Alabama Welcome Center on the AL/MS line! Daphne Tourism was well represented - we were so thrilled to see so much participation from our Daphne hotels! Five Daphne hotels were represented on site today including Daphne Hilton Garden Inn, Comfort Suites, Home2Suites, Hampton Inn and Homewood Suites. Daphne Tourism has grown leaps and bounds! We were also thrilled to see on the scene with us this year! And of course a proper welcome isn't complete without the lovely Mobile Azalea Trail Maids and USS Alabama Crewmates.

While in Daphne, you may spot this incredible sight - an osprey soaring through the sky with a fish in its talons! Did you know that out of the 447 species of birds listed in the state of Alabama, 422 of them (about 95 percent) have been observed in Baldwin and Mobile Counties?

Daphne is an integral part of the Alabama Coastal Birding Trail, where you are sure to see an abundance of different species of birds, especially in the spring and fall migration seasons. Two perfect parks in Daphne for bird watching are Village Point Park Preserve and Bayfront Park. So while you are gazing out at the beautiful bay views, don't forget to look up and you may spot this stunning sight! 👀🤩🦅

One is located at D'Olive Bay Boat Launch and the other is located at May Day Park. Looking for a spot to get on the water? Happy National Travel and Tourism Week! 🌎 In the spirit of this week, we invite you to Discover Daphne! Do you know why Daphne, Alabama is known as the "Jubilee City?"

🦀 Daphne is most famous for being one of only two places in the world to experience a natural phenomenon called a "Jubilee." This rare phenomenon occurs when a layer of water with low-dissolved oxygen moves to the shore, forcing bottom-dwelling fish and crustaceans to the shore. The result is a bountiful grouping of blue crabs, flounder, shrimp and other fish gathered in the shallow waters of the shoreline! This occurrence makes it essentially effortless to scoop them up into a net or cooler and bring home an abundance of fresh seafood to eat.

🐟Scientific evidence as well as local legend both claim that the conditions that cause a jubilee must be just right in order for it to happen. Jubilees only occur in the summer months, following a cloudy day when the bay is calm and slick, with a gentle breeze coming from the east and usually in the early dawn hours before sunrise.

Come discover Daphne and, if the conditions are just right, see this truly unique experience for yourself!
