Welcome to , a new weekly post where I share helpful tips for your sessions and wedding day. These tips come from 12 years of experience as a photographer with involvement in the wedding industry all throughout.
Today's Tip is "It's all in the details". If you're anything like me, you look at amazing wedding day detail shots and swoon! Capturing gorgeous details is one of my favorite parts about a wedding day (along with my million and one other favorite parts, of course 😘). What I've learned is that capturing stunning detail shots is a team effort. Sure, it takes a photographer, like me, with experience, knowledge in lighting, professional equipment and a creative eye. BUT... it takes just a little bit of planning ahead on the couple's side as well.
So, what can YOU, a bride/groom, do to get those dreamy detail shots? It's actually pretty simple... have your details together in one place and ready for me to grab on the big day. This includes, but is not limited to, rings, shoes, jewelry, perfume/cologne boxes, invitations, lipstick, garter, etc. The less time I have to spend tracking all of these pieces down, the more time I can spend doing what I love, capturing beauty!
Want to earn major bonus points?... Ask your florist to throw in some loose clippings that match your bouquet. These will just be a few extra flowers (generally no stem), baby's breath pieces, etc. that match the ones used in your bouquet. Then, (Like the top photo in this post), I can coordinate those loose flower pieces around in your detail photos for an extra POP of gorgeous.
Okay, now you know what you need to do, but there's also some things you DON'T need to worry about, because your awesome photographer (THAT'S ME!) brings along a whole kit of detail pieces to make these shots extra amazing. This includes velvet ring boxes, chiffon ribbons, wax seals/stamp, gem leaves, antique trays, acrylic risers and more! Not to mention, I'm always adding to my kit. Together, we can make your detail shots magazine worthy!
Let me know in the comments what I should add to my detail kit next!
