Silver Bank Documentary
Promoting their documentary on the Silver Bank in the Dominican Republic, Channel 2 Televisa news aired five teaser clips last week, including this one. The show, 'Por el Planeta,' aired for the first time last night and will be shown again this evening. We will make the full show available in the coming weeks.
Humpback whale singing on the Silver Bank
Week 8: March 9 - 16, 2024
"Once we see the whale take a few breaths and dive beneath the surface again, we make our slow approach... suddenly the tender is full of sound and the deck is vibrating beneath our feet. This is a singing humpback whale! Every time, after about twelve minutes of singing, this whale, instead of the usual casual swim off, utilizes its precise buoyancy and raises almost half of its body, fluke first, high above the surface and right in front of the guests."

Week 6: February 24 - March 2, 2024
"This behavior continued until about twelve thirty when the highlight of the encounter happened. Again, floating passively at the surface, the guests looked on as the calf played. But then the calf, with all its might, launched itself out of the water doing a full spinning head breach, followed by mum and then again the calf breached! It was a spectacular day with an incredible encounter! You really can’t ask for much more than that."

Week 3: February 3 - 10, 2024
"...this mother was letting us know exactly how she felt about us approaching. It was pretty clear that she didn’t want company when the spray from her tail breach splashed up over the boat and when she turned onto her ventral side and began lob tailing right next to the tender."

Week 3 (February 3 - 10, 2024)
"Later in the afternoon a rowdy group came racing by. It started with a few whales but continued to grow until we had five whales all competing for a female. It’s always a high energy, exciting experience to motor alongside a rowdy group and see the fast offensive maneuvering of the challengers."

Absolutely a priceless time with this male and female humpback whale….they were sleeping then came up for a breath and then just sat next to us for quite a while and then went back down to nap. We were all just a couple feet from them in the water. Definitely a moment in time I will never forget.“

Magical moments on the Silver Bank - January 2024
Our group had the most magical morning with this mother, calf and escort trio who calmly circled our boats & snorkelers for hours, letting everyone witness their immense size and even bigger grace. “Beautiful” doesn’t even begin to describe it.
Female humpback “Clamp”, her new calf and unidentified escort. Identification thanks to Joanne Jarzobski and the Center for Coastal Studies Gulf of Maine humpback catalog. Huge thanks for the work CCS does in researching and protecting the whales we love so much!

Humpbacks are migrating!
We just had to share this beautiful video captured by a diver on a Explorer Ventures Turks & Caicos Explorer II (our Silver Bank mothership) scuba diving trip in the Turks & Caicos Islands!
The migrating humpback whales are beginning to pass through the islands and are arriving on the breeding grounds ~ which means we will be joining them soon!!🐋
