Leatherback Sea Turtles hatched 🐢💙🐢

Rare leatherback sea turtles have hatched on Ocracoke Island for the first time in almost two decades, according to officials with the Cape Hatteras National Seashore.

With six weeks left until nesting season ends, sea turtles have laid a record-breaking 1,482 nests on Volusia County beaches. This beats last year’s record of 1,427. It’s a stormy Sunday and probably not the best day for the beach, so here is an idea - Marine Science Center.
This great place has nursed more than 200 species and many thousands of animals back to health and released many back into the wild, among them sea turtles, hatchlings, and other animals such as snakes, gopher tortoises, and freshwater turtles.
Mary Keller Seabird Rehabilitation Facility has taken in almost 18,000 injured birds.

Children and parents can actually view the research facilities and touch some of the inhabitants in the large touch-tank, including stingrays. Other highlights include a Turtle Terrace, a nature trail with boardwalks, a bird observation tower, and all kinds of interesting exhibits.
