We are beyond grateful to everyone who made Freedom’s River: Underground Railroad History Day on the Choptank such a meaningful success! A heartfelt thank you to the incredible Linda Harris for her beautiful contribution in bringing the story of Harriet Tubman’s courage and determination to life. Her words reminded us of the power of history and the legacy of resilience that runs deep through this region. And a special shout-out to her husband David, who left his own morning gig and was able to make it for the last two cruises. The addition of the banjo brought the history alive even further!
Kennedy, Captain Allan, Katie, Will, and Parker worked diligently behind the scenes to put this event together, striving to expand accessibility to our local history and make the stories of the past more engaging and impactful for our community. While we were saddened that so many who reserved seats were unable to join us, we are deeply thankful for those who did, and for the speakers, attendees, and dedicated behind-the-scenes team who made this day possible.
We hope that everyone who attended left feeling refreshed, inspired, and with a renewed sense of appreciation for the Choptank River and its vital role in the journey toward freedom—a river that we hold so close to our hearts. As our season is winding down to a close, we could not have asked for a better day to keep our spirits high and our hopes for next year even greater!
As Linda Harris would say: Find the Harriet in You!
