Crouching on a sleeping pad won't help you, a cave isn't a safe place to wait out a storm, and metal doesn't attract lightning: Here's what you should know about lightning safety.

🚨 Please wear your life jackets (PFD’s) 🚨
Colorado is prone to microburst storms and cold water shock. Even if you’re a good swimmer, or are wearing your leash, that is not a substitute for a flotation device. Most drowning incidents could have been prevented if the victim had been wearing a life jacket.
Don’t want tan lines? Wear a waist belt PFD
Going on the river? Wear a Type III PFD (also please take a course with an instructor if you do not have river experience)
Keeping your life jacket on your vessel and not on your body will not help you in the case of an emergency.
If you value your life, please wear your life jacket on all bodies of water, all of the time 🙏

Twelve people have died on Colorado’s rivers and lakes so far in 2024, raising concerns among state officials as water-related deaths are already higher than this time last year.

Another gorgeous day and great crew on the Women’s Snowshoes & Mimosas event 🥂🍊
This lovely couple went all out on their Colorado activities for the weekend. First snowshoeing, then snowmobiling. Way to take advantage of what our state has to offer in the winter! Congrats to your new life in Colorado ❄️
We had quite the adventure on our Moonlight Snowshoe tour last night and had absolutely perfect weather! We watched the moon rise over the mountains, saw a snowshoe hare, and had picture perfect views at Dream Lake. ❤️ My clients also helped me with assisting a lost hiker on the first part of our trip! Well done 👏
PSA: Please always carry a Ten Essentials Kit and GPS device with you whenever you are recreating outdoors, especially alone.
I was guiding a Moonlight Snowshoe in Rocky Mountain National Park last night and as we were gearing up, another group of hikers mentioned that someone was lost on the trail.
This person had been stranded for hours in cold windy conditions and was so exhausted that they were not able to rescue themselves.
There was another group of hikers on the trail marking the location of the lost person and I was able to get down to them and assist them and get them back up to the trail.
As a trained guide, I had all the tools needed to assist in the rescue such as a Garmin GPS, topo map, contact information for the rangers and additional gear and food for the person lost.
These items should always be with you when recreating, and are a part of the Ten Essentials kit.
Thankfully the ranger made it to us just as we got back to the trail and was able to assist them back to the trailhead where their partner had been waiting for them.
Had nobody heard this persons cries, this would have ended badly.
I have several Women’s Backcountry Skills Clinics I’m teaching this summer, which covers all the essentials of wilderness survival.
Please consider signing up if you do not already have this type of training. It can save your life.
This group was way too much fun! Lots of exploring off trail, conquering fallen trees, and plenty of laughs. We never did find that moose we were looking for though… 🤔 all the more reason to come back!
Another successful Women’s Snowshoes & Mimosas event in the books! The weather turned out to be great despite the chilly, snowy start to the morning and we had such a great crew of ladies. Brunch and mimosas were definitely earned with the 20” snowpack we trekked through ❄️ 💪🏼
