šŸŒ At Monarch & Swift, we believe travel is a way to change perceptions and challenge perspectives. Yet, experiencing unforgettable adventure requires a significant amount of effort which can be intimidating and deter us from exploration outside our comfort zone.

šŸŒŽ We exist to facilitate meaningful, hassle free travel for those who are eager to discover the world but find themselves disheartened

by the prospect of planning. Our passion is to bring the extraordinary closer by breaking boundaries, opening new worlds, and bringing thrill back into peopleā€™s lives.

šŸŒ Monarch & Swift is an itinerary planning service ā€“ we create highly customized travel itineraries driven by your personal preferences.

šŸŒ Our goal is to create an equal exchange between the community and the traveler. If we arenā€™t intentional about the way we schedule travel, our dollars have very little positive impact on enriching and empowering the people of the communities weā€™re so eager to visit. Responsible tourism amplifies the right voices, empowers locals to make decisions about their towns and puts them at the center of that development.

šŸŒŽ At Monarch & Swift, we connect you with guides, operators, excursions, drivers, restaurants, and accommodations that are locally owned and operated. To start planning your next adventure , email, DM or contact us via the website and discuss how we can be useful to you and yours.

A honeymoon so magnificent, our clients couldnā€™t pick just one highlight! āœØ

Typically, when clients come to us to plan their honeymoon, weā€™re talking beach destinations. When .claire.h and came to us they said ā€œsend me to Iceland in the winterā€

šŸ«” CAN DOšŸ«”

In a weeklong road trip through Iceland Ian and Emily visited Reykjavik, The Golden Circle & the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. The highlights?

šŸ§Š The Katla Ice Cave, made famous by Game of Thrones. On this excursion, Ian and Emily walked over the glacier, where underneath the mighty volcano Katla roared. After a short glacier walk, they entered the cave of ā€œDragon Glassā€ where they were dazzled by the cave's extraordinary colors. Swearing by the old gods and the new, the view from inside the ice cave is truly spectacular...

šŸ„˜ The second might not be what you expect! While many travelers fly into and out of Rekyjavik, few spend an extended period in the capital. Ian & Emily dedicated a day to exploring the capital, embarking on a 3-hour walking food tour delving into the local food, people, history & traditions. They visited everything from well-known ā€˜must visit restaurantsā€™ to small family run businesses and secret local hangouts. Think delicious Icelandic lamb that every Icelander grew up loving, homemade Icelandic ice cream from a secret family recipe, an amazing local seafood cuisine, Icelandic cheese, a hot dog from the famous Icelandic hot dog stand. All that before an evening flight home map for excellent nap conditions on the planeā€¦!

šŸ”Perhaps youā€™re an adventurer bound for Patagonia, or are simply *passing through* Ushuaia on your way to Antarctica.

šŸ· Or perhaps youā€™re a wine-lover staying in the famed Mendoza region or soaking in the culture in the capital city of Buenos Aires.

šŸ‡¦šŸ‡· Whatever the case, Argentina has something for every type of traveler.Ā

Whatā€™s at the top of our Argentinian hit list!? The Iguazu waterfalls.

These awe-inspiring waterfalls form a half-crescent moon on the border of Argentina and Brazil, with dramatic cascades falling into the Iguazu River below. On her first sight of the tremendous IguazĆŗ Falls, former First Lady of the USA Eleanor Roosevelt exclaimed, ā€œPoor Niagara!ā€

šŸ‡¦šŸ‡· If youā€™re hoping to visit Argentina this season, the time to plan and book your trip is now. Slide into our DMā€™s and weā€™ll get to work curating a trip worth writing home about.

A five week tour through Europe with three kids, four countries, intense crowds and this HEAT?Ā

Your instinct might be ā€œsheeeeeeeshā€ but with intentional planning, this whirlwind adventure created memories that will truly last a lifetime for the Smith-Vaniz family!Ā

Spain (San SebastiƔn, Barcelona, Menorca), France (Annecy), Switzerland (Lucerne, Jungfraujoch) & England (London, Cotswold).

So what did we focus on to ensure the Smith - Vaniz crew had a VACATION as well as an adventure?! Accommodation. When traveling with kids, Here are our non negotiables:

šŸ” Space: both indoor and outdoor space for kids to run, swim, play and be boisterous. When you have SPACE on a family trip, youā€™re not reliant on BEING SOMEWHERE or DOING SOMETHING for entertainment ā€“ itā€™s built in.
šŸ“Location: While you want built in entertainment, nobody takes a transatlantic flight to stay at the apartment pool. And nobody dreams of finagling with car seats and rental cars in the crowded streets of Barcelona (if you do, come see us). When in the city, it's a nonnegotiable that our clients are within a short walk to amenities & attractions ā€“ a metro stop, restaurants, and grocery store.
ā˜Æļø Balance: When designing a family vacation, we always balance time in cities with time in more remote areas. Cities lean towards ā€œhard charging, go go goā€, and the countryside provides respite, and that VACATION feel.Ā

Family vacation, especially to faraway destinations can be intimidating to plan. Donā€™t ever let somebody convince you that itā€™s not worth it because they had a mediocre experience.Ā

Shoot us an email (link in bio) and weā€™ll be more than happy to advise on how to best turn your vision into an ENJOYABLE reality.

Whenā€™s the last time you crossed something off of your bucket list?
Ā
āœˆļø This week, we have two clients departing for southern Spain and upon arrival theyā€™ll immediately sail the strait of Gibraltar, the body of water between Europe (Spain) and Africa (Morocco), to spend two weeks winding through Morocco.
Ā
šŸ›„ So why not fly directly to Morocco?! As a child, Grant visited Southern and during this trip heĀ  became intrigued with Morocco because he could see it from their house.. It blew his mind that you could sail from Europe to Africa in (90) minutes. He knew one day he had to do it, and one day is this week.
Ā
Aside from ticking ā€œsail the strait of Gibraltarā€Ā  off his bucket list, Grant and Elise are most excited about:

šŸ§¶Carpet shopping in Fesā€™ famous medina
šŸ„˜ Learning to cook tagine at a home cooking class in ChefchaouenĀ
šŸ§–ā€ā™€ļø Relaxing and getting pampered at hammams inā€¦well in every city!
šŸ•Œ An architecture tour in Casablanca with CasamĆ©moire, a nonprofit preservation organization working to have parts of the city designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Ā
āœˆļø If your bucket list is collecting dust, shoot us a DM and weā€™ll help you rectify the situation!

As the high season in North America & Europe rages on, weā€™re taking a minute to pick our heads up and look a few months down the calendar. If you have hopes of traveling to South America this year, we encourage you to follow suit!Ā

South America is chalk FULL of bucket list experiences. Here are our top 5:

šŸ‘ Stay at .lapeninsula , an operating wool farm in the heart of Argentinian Patagonia.

šŸš Helicopter through Parque Nacional Canaima, Venezuela

šŸ§™šŸ¼Experience El Mercado de Las Brujas (the witch market) in La Paz, Bolivia

An epic wedding deserves an equally as epic honeymoon and thatā€™s exactly what Monarch & Swift clients Dan & Sarah got!

Avid wine & art connoisseurs, with a penchant for biking & hiking, Dan and Sarah wanted a honeymoon where they could eat fine food & drink tasty wine all while unwinding and enjoying the natural beauty of Napa Valley. Here are some highlights:

šŸš‚ A fine dining experience aboard the famed , which evokes the elegant glory days of luxury train travel. Sit back, relax, and savor every delicious bite & every bit of extraordinary scenery!

šŸš² A bike ride along the Vine Trail with stops at the , the to admire street art, and an afternoon lunching in and binking about Yountville.

šŸ§– A mud bath ritual at . Calistoga is famous for its hot springs, sparkling mineral pools, and, of course, mud baths. Indian Springā€™s mud bath ritual is an iconic treatment using pure volcanic ash and mineral water from their own geysers for a relaxing and detoxifying experience.

šŸ„¾ Hiking in Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, marveling at the majesty of the redwoods (andā€¦maybe some unexpected river crossingsā€¦Oops!)

We donā€™t put any badge on honeymoons other than they should be as individual as the couple. Tailor-made luxury at hand-picked beach resorts might be just what you've been dreaming of. If you want to mix time away from it all with a dash of adventure, we can tailor your honeymoon to include a couple of days exploring before your beach stay, on safari, picking up the pace in a city or visiting your destination's cultural heirlooms.

šŸÆ šŸŒ™ If you, or somebody you know is planning a honeymoon, send them our information. Weā€™d be honored to help them curate a vacation as memorable as the wedding day.

We believe that people travel to broaden their horizons, recharge and amaze themselves by the diversity of our planet.

šŸ¦‹ When a client comes to us asking us to design an itinerary, our priority is to align them with places & people who will help them achieve just that.

šŸ„˜ Enter Gustamundo, a restaurant that helps immigrants in Italy get citizenship, deal with red tape and of course, find employment.

šŸ¦‹ Gustamundo hosts weekly ā€œmigrant cooking storiesā€ in which a 4-course dinner is served to participants in which each course is prepared by someone who migrated to Italy. This serves as an opportunity for the chefs to share their cuisine, their story and thus their country with those traveling to Italy.

šŸ„˜ Itā€™s a foregone conclusion that food will be central to your itinerary in Italy. What many travelers donā€™t consider is what a central role Italy plays (and has played for centuries) in hosting migrants from across the world.

šŸ¦‹ Experiences like Migrant Cooking Stories with enrich your travel experience, bringing you far beyond any guidebook recommendation, showing you just how interconnected and diverse our planet is.

šŸ„˜ If youā€™re headed to Italy in the coming months, reach out! Weā€™d love to help you personalize an itinerary for an extraordinary adventure.

āš ļø AVOID ROADTRIP MANIA āš ļø

On this round of TRAVEL TIPS FROM THE COMMUNITY weā€™re sharing three beginner level travel tips for ROAD TRIPS!

šŸš— Use cupcake liners to keep cup holders clean! Drinks are bound to spill, and Murphyā€™s Law dictates the only drinks that will spill are sticky ones! Keep your cup holders clean by lining them with cupcake holders.Ā

šŸš— Turn a cereal container into a no-spill trash can! This is a lifesaver for keeping the car tidy and smelling fresh; cereal containers come with a lid which keeps trash and smells from piling up on a long-haul venture! Line the container with a small biodegradable bag (take spares!) and place it on the floor of a footwell. Empty the trash when you stop for gas along the way.

šŸš— Hang bags you need quick access to with carabiners!Ā Use carabiners as hooks for your purse, tote bags, snack bags, diaper bags or whatever youā€™ll need quick access to!

If you have a road trip coming up, weā€™re curious ā€“ where are you going and would any of these tips be useful?!

02/01/2022

Surprise! Valentineā€™s Day is exactly two weeks away.

šŸ’•Have you gotten something special for your sweetie yet? If not, don't fret ā€“ weā€™ve got you covered.

How much do you know about Oman?!

šŸ‡“šŸ‡² Before planning a trip for a client embarking on a three-week road trip through the country, we didnā€™t know much. Itā€™s since SKYROCKETED to the top of our bucket list. Oman STUNS with breathtaking architecture, natural beauty, and artisans producing eye-popping pottery.

šŸ‡“šŸ‡² For NATURAL BEAUTY, head to Musandam ā€œthe Norway of the Middle Eastā€ and take a Dhow cruise.

šŸ‡“šŸ‡² For BREATHTAKING ARCHITECTURE visit The Grand Mosque in Oman's capital of Muscat. (PRO TIP! Stay at The Chedi Muscat - a GHM Hotel while youā€™re in town ā€“ itā€™s at the top of our list of hotels to visit worldwide!)

šŸ‡“šŸ‡² For TRADITIONAL POTTERY hit the Nizwa Souq! Youā€™ll find local artisans, and traditional designs. On the same day, check out the Nizwa Fort which is just across the way.

If youā€™re craving a vacation thatā€™s a bit different than what youā€™ve done in the past, reach out! We LIVE for client interactions where weā€™re able to advise on lesser known locations that align with your interests.

In a city as busy as ATLANTA, how do you decide where to spend your time?! šŸ‘

Weā€™re starting a series in which once per month one of our travelers (Local Swifts) will share insight into the place they call home! This month, weā€™re featuring our founder, , who hails from ATL, GA.

šŸ‘Ā Atlanta is a city renowned for its distinct culture, exquisite culinary scene, and deep historical roots and Iā€™m proud to call it home!Ā

šŸ‘ I grew up in a neighborhood in Atlanta where the Centers for Disease Control, Emory University, and the International Rescue CommitteeĀ , fed into the same school system. The combination of these international organizations contributed to a massively diverse student population (80 languages were spoken at my high school!), AND a massively diverse neighborhood at large.Ā

šŸ‘Ā Nowhere is this more apparent than . I would NEVER CONSIDER taking a trip home and not visiting the Farmers Market. Hereā€™s what to expect:Ā

šŸ“Ā This isnā€™t your typical ā€œset up for a few hours on the weekend and sell soapā€ type Farmers Market. This is a 140,000 square foot warehouse that is a TRUE world market.Ā

šŸ“Ā GO HUNGRY! Thereā€™s an in-market cafeteria chock full of MOUTH WATERING, international food where you pay by the pound. Donā€™t pass the veggie samosas. CHEFS KISS.Ā

šŸ“Ā Hit the spice section ā€“ extensive, colorful, wildly affordable, and a sure-fire way to avoid bland.Ā

If youā€™re considering a trip to Atlanta, reach out, and weā€™ll
get you in touch with Molly. If youā€™re not considering a trip to ATLā€¦. you
should be, but weā€™re biased.

If youā€™re planning a trip to Ghana, SAVE this post.

šŸ‡¬šŸ‡Ā Ā The ā€œtourist routeā€ for many folks visiting Ghana typically consists of Kakum National Park, Cape Coast Castle, and Labadi. Donā€™t get us wrongā€¦.we wouldnā€™t visit Ghana without experiencing these places. However, weā€™re here to encourage you to stay in the capital city for a bit longer than you might have planned.

šŸ‡¬šŸ‡Ā Ā Accra, the capital of Ghana, is receiving increased recognition for its talented designers and is solidifying its spot on the world stage as a fashion hub.Ā

āœØ.a.k.s designs IMPECCABLE handbags leveraging weaving techniques that are passed down through generations. AAKS bags are exquisite, ultra-colorful, and sustainably produced!Ā

āœØ founded byĀ  got his start in fashion by dealing second-hand vintage wares in Accra. His inspiration draws from a vintage market in Kantamanto. Eventually, he began taking vintage pieces and deconstructing them, creating his own original designs. Iddrisu uses fabrics that nobody buys and would end up as junk, then prints or dyes them how he wants!Ā Ā

āœØĀ And finally, is a womenswear label fusing Ghanaian prints with strong shapes. Chloeā€™s first collection was inspired by the moods and sentiments from the pandemic. She leverages color schemes or words that speak to the things that we gravitate towards in a crisis.

šŸ‡¬šŸ‡Ā Ā At Monarch & Swift, the perfect itinerary incorporates heavy-hitting attractions ALONGSIDE harder to find, hyper-local attractions. The balance allows you to experience the culture of the place youā€™ve been so looking forward to visiting. Reach out to us and weā€™ll curate the perfectly balanced itinerary for your upcoming trip.

BEEP BEEP! Watch out, thatā€™s us coming onto your timeline to toot our own horn šŸŽŗ

We recently planned a long weekend to Charleston for three friends looking to reconnect and relax before the holiday craziness. There is no shortage of charm or delicious options in Charleston. Weā€™re so pleased we were able to help Kenzie and her friends experience this to the fullest.

ā€œMolly, my travel consultant with Monarch & Swift, was incredibly helpful in planning a friend's weekend trip to Charleston. She had PERFECT recommendations for restaurants and bars and designed an itinerary that was just what we were looking for. Without working with Molly we would have had a much more random and less delicious weekend. I would definitely recommend this service!ā€

Are you and a group of friends looking to get away and reset?! Let us know. Weā€™d LOVE to curate a memorable vacation where youā€™re all able to recharge, have fun and enjoy each other's company.

Planning and group decision-making is what we do best!

How To Eat Like a Local in Florence, Italy.

A food tour is one of the best things to do in Florence at the start of your visit. So, are you ready for a chow adventure? Take a look at this delicious list to eat where the locals do! šŸ„˜

āœ”ļøBreakfast: a typical breakfast consists of coffee, tea and cornetti, which is a warm, sweet croissant filled with cream or fruit jam. Try out CaffĆØ Finisterrae

āœ”ļøBaked Food: Try schiacciata at Forno dei Ciompi. Itā€™s like focaccia, only flattened by the fingers of the baker, leaving pockets to hold olive oil and salt that are added on top. Try it out at Piazza dei Ciompi.

āœ”ļøWine; Don't forget to sample out the hidden gems in the neighborhood of Santo Spirito, Babae for aged varieties that will excite your taste buds.

āœ”ļøFast Food; Try a lampredotto sandwich at a street food stand. Itā€™s a thing in Florence.

āœ”ļøHang out at the Santā€™Ambrogio Market in Florence. There is a lot of local dishes you could dig in and try out. You can have a nosh with a glass of wine, sit down and sample bruschetta, try nicely-aged prosciutto sliced on order, or finocchiona (salami with fennel)!

āœ”ļø Last but not least, your food journey isn't complete without gelato! Top it up with a signature Amarena flavor with black cherries, hazelnut, and amaretto biscuits.

"Monarch & Swift planned a long weekend getaway in Bend, OR for my daughters and me for my 60th Bday. With no planning on my end, it was one of the best weekend getaways I've had. We rented cruiser bikes to explore the city, canoed in a volcano with a beer-tasting theme, and went to the mountains for a long hike. One of the hikes required a permit and had I not gone with Monarch & Swift I would have missed this bit of information and not been able to do the hike. Of course, all these activities were supplemented with great breweries and restaurant recommendations as well."

For this birthday celebration, we wanted something where Laura could be her most active self and take in everything Bend had to offer. We planned a three-day trip including different activities for each day of celebration.

šŸ„¾ A long hike up to Green Lake on the ever-gorgeous Green Lakes Trail!
šŸš“šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø Biking along the Deschutes River Trail which took them all around town along the Deschutes River. They stopped in town for lunch and to shop around the downtown!
šŸŗ A Canoeā€™s, Brews, and Views tour where, as the name alludes to, they went canoeing at Paulina Lake and sampled local brews, which Bend is famous for!

Want to celebrate someone special in your life? If so, let us help you make it unique and aligned to the person you're planning for. Planning is what we do best!

Let's talk travel insurance.

If you ask around most people will tell you it's not worth the cost because they've never had anything happen during a trip, especially if it's a short trip. But, like most things, not all insurance is the same.

First, travel insurance doesn't only serve to cover medical hospital bills or vaccines in foreign countries. It also protects you from lost baggage, flight cancellations, or unforeseen changes to your trip.

Now, this is where it gets tricky. Because we ARE talking about insurance, you've gotta get the right policy for you and make sure to read the fine print. For travel, some things might be seen as unforeseen before your trip but then change to a foreseeable event (like weather) during your trip. In this day in age, we recommend checking out plans with the "cancel for any reason" add-on.

The key is to purchase a policy that is specifically suited for you and your trip.

Need help? We can help you get just what you need! DM us with questions.

To travel is to live...

Perched between the ocean and the mountain, with a national park as its heart, there is nowhere quite like Cape Town.

Adventure-packed, culture-rich, and tourist-friendly, the "Mother City" is more than meets the eye.

Some of our favorite things to do in Cape Town:

šŸš£ Kayak around Sea Point. There are many kayak options to choose from depending on the season and time of visit. Just make sure you don't miss out on the Shark dive!

šŸ§ Boulders Beach in False Bay offers something extra special ā€“ a colony of African Penguins. It's the only place in the world where you can get close to African Penguins.

šŸŒ“ Abseil down Table Mountain. For thrill-seekers, this is a MUST DO!

šŸ· Ebike + wine tasting in Franschhoek. Bike down to the wine valley and sample aged varieties straight from the cellar.

What is your most memorable travel experience?!

šŸ‡ØšŸ‡“ One place that sticks with us is La Guajira, Colombia. The region is distinguished by desert landscapes, giant sand dunes and the remote ranches and fishing villages of the indigenous Wayuu people.

šŸœ Lookup ā€œCabo del la Velaā€ and ā€œPunta Gallinasā€ to be blown away by the beauty of this region.

šŸ‡ØšŸ‡“ Historically, there was no enforced border in this region, as the Wayuu, the biggest indigenous nation in Colombia, moved nomadically across the region. With continued unrest in Venezuela, Colombia closed the border in 2016, putting additional strain on already impossibly severe living conditions. As a visitor to the region, it was mind-boggling to consider how anybody could survive out there and I reflect on my time there often.

šŸœ Colombia is culturally rich and its natural beauty is unmatched. The country boasts a gorgeous coastline, lush jungle, sprawling coffee fincas, and sweeping deserts. There is awe-inspiring architecture, captivating street art, and endless historical sites.

šŸ‡ØšŸ‡“ We cannot recommend Colombia enough, and if you need help narrowing down the COUNTLESS options, you know where to find us!

Family vacations should be FUN. If they haven't been in the past, we'll let you in on a little tip: you're probably not communicating enough.

Here are 4 ways to fun-proof your family vacation:

1. Pick the destination together! You can even make it into a game! I had a family once tell me they made vacation planning into a contest: the best presentation on their chosen destination wins. It worked!

2. Talk about expectations! Who's paying for what? How much time do you plan to spend together? Who's interested in which activities?

3. Dial into the details! The smallest of things MATTER. Do you want to all have breakfast together?! Whose driving?! Discuss the small stuff in advance.

4. Be flexible. Remember, you're there to have a great time together and make wonderful memories! Consider creating a family vacation pledge and a small toast "We kick this family vacation off with a solemn pledge! I promise to ....." and then cheers! It could be a nice, fun moment for a photo too.

A true southern staple: the sweet potato pie.

Around the US you'll find candied yams and sweet potato casserole but in the Southern United States, this pie is a Thanksgiving staple šŸ¦ƒ

Some of the best places to grab a sweet potato pie are:
šŸ„§San Antonio, Texas: Earl Abel's Restaurant
šŸ„§Atlanta, GA: Sweet Auburn
šŸ„§ Houston, TX: Not Jus' Donuts

This autumnal pie tastes like a cozy blend of spices, warm vanilla, and, of course, sweet potatoes!

Have you tried it? Are you šŸŽƒ or šŸ  for pie šŸ„§?

"Molly was a pleasure to work with. She helped put together an amazing staff retreat for my Team. She found us a great venue for our meetings, made restaurant recommendations, and helped us find a fun accessible activity that allowed us to bond as a Team (we visited an Alpaca farm!). I would absolutely recommend this company."

We live for moments like this when our meticulous, thoughtful planning knocks it out of the park!

For this inspiring non-profit Nurses for Sexual and Reproductive Health, we planned a two-day team retreat for staff both local and flying into Denver. Aside from restaurant recommendations on where to eat, we set the team up with a meeting space at Prodigy Coffeehouse (which does apprenticeships for community members and offers free meeting space), and then sent the entire team to an Alpaca Farm in Morrison, CO Alpaca Encounters (at red rocks!) for a team-building activity. The retreat was a SMASH.

Does your team need a retreat? IF so, let us help you make it unique without having to spend the HOURS of labor it takes to make a retreat a SUCCESS. Planning and group decision-making is what we do best!

When it comes to perception, the word "dump" tends to have a negative (perhaps even dirty) connotation. But for our ski bums (no pun intended šŸ˜Ž) out there, "dump" is their favorite thing to hear.

It essentially means that a lot of snow is going to fall, leading to gorgeous fresh powder for skiing!

Example: Look outside, we're getting dumped on! Woo! Letā€™s hit the slopes tomorrow.
