Today I did a 6:18am live demo on how the earth orbits the sun and rotates by being earth and orbiting a kitchen island.

In proper kid fashion the response I received after a lot of other questions and answers was.. “so are you saying alive aliens live on Mars?”

In case any of your kids have shared that I taught them something that sounds a bit off.. this might be why. 🤷‍♀️

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms, I’m grateful for and impressed by every single one of you. Including solo moms, moms who have miracle babies and rainbow babies, who have lots of kiddos or just one, older mamas and younger mamas, adoptive moms and foster moms, moms expecting, empty-nester moms, travel moms and stay at home moms. And all the other mom types too!

You’re all amazing, and you’re doing the greatest most important job there is. You definitely aren’t paid enough or thanked enough either.

I hope today is filled with love and relaxation and not a single child demands a snack from you 😉.

This is why I remind kids it’s okay to be frustrated, mad, sad, confused, unsure, nervous or any of the emotions we usually mark as ‘bad.’

I have been in many of those conversations where I wanted to swoop in and fix things and therefore avoid the bad feeling too. I mean kids at recess say some unhinged things, amiright?

We all have this instinct of wanting to help and solve. I’d argue the most helpful thing to do is just be there to listen 💖

As with all things human there is no perfect parenting and no one gets perfect every time. This is in line my ideology that there is more than one ‘right’ way to do the same thing.

According to research the authoritative (not to be confused authoritarian) style is considered high warmth and high demand and is generally the style with the most positive outcomes for children. Kids know what to expect but also know it’s safe to make mistakes as they’ll be met with warmth and conversation.

Curious which parenting style you believe you were raised with and which you align with as a parent or caregiver now. I think it’s important to remove morality from it, at least for a moment. E.g. a permissive style makes total sense for adult children or maybe special needs children at times, an uninvolved style might be necessary to get work done, authoritarian might be necessary in a moment when safety is concerned. I’d love to hear thoughts on all this.

Things I practice and I preach:

⭐️ Be kind first and be kind back: this has made my life better and easier and more abundant in nearly every way. Coupled with that is generosity, if I can be generous with any of my resources I will. Usually they look like treats or coffee or meals or hugs or extra tips or terrible jokes or just time. I don’t really ‘preach’ generosity but always feel hopeful it shines through me. I learned from some of the best.

⭐️Ask for help, and also help yourself if you can: I always offer to help but I also remind kiddos that they’re very capable and can try it first. I’ll (sometimes literally) catch them if they fall. Personally working on asking for help without guilt more myself as I am in constant growth mode in most aspects of my business and life lately. 💪🏻

⭐️No self hate: I recently told someone 8 not to talk to my friend that way after she called herself stupid. This sort of self talk isn’t allowed even if it’s just something small. I believe it grows with a person and I simply care too much.

⭐️Do overs are always allowed: try again, say again, ask again, start again whichever version it’s okay. I give grace and believe most people mean well.

⭐️Last but absolutely not least jokes do not require proper punch lines, especially if they’re told by 3 year olds or involve any response or version of chicken butt.

I recently saw someone on a reel wearing a shirt that said “intend your puns” and not only will be I be scouring the internet to order my own, this weeks’ jokes all be intended puns.

I mean if you’re following this page it seems safe to say you’re a pun supporter already. Hoping this week they’ll at least be funny 😉

I have reached a point in my business where I am in need of a back up nanny to help support and provide care for my client families throughout mainly Denver Metro and Douglas County.

I provide only temporary and intermittent childcare including overnights during parent travel and all sorts of other short term care needs.

I’m looking for someone to join my team who:

Has at least 5 years of verifiable nanny or related childcare experience. House management skills are a plus.

Loves to be around kids and is comfortable with pets.

Has experience working with neurodivergent children.

Has a caretakers heart.

Is a great communicator.

Is highly reliable.

Can pass a criminal background check, and has a clean driving record.

Has a CPR/first aid certification.

I recently read every joke I have posted since starting my business to a small human. Apparently he wasn’t picking up what I was putting down and definitely was not amused.

In my defense I almost always have kids help me choose my weekly jokes but can’t win ‘em all. 🙈 🙉

I found it especially wholesome that he wanted me to google jokes kids actually like. 😂

I believe there can be many right ways to do the same thing. Different isn’t always wrong. Despite my best efforts, kids over the years have made sure I know when I’m not doing it like their parents. 😆 I have indeed made mistakes like (but not limited to) cutting food wrong, warming up food wrong, cooling down food wrong, helping someone get dressed wrong or in the wrong order, getting the wrong amount of treats, playing the game wrong, racing wrong, holding hands wrong, buckling wrong and on and on. I also cannot control the weather or the temperature in public places which is also 👎 🤷‍♀️ I’m nothing if not adaptable. I will always and forever not do it the same as mom and dad. I will also always hold space for patience and compassion. I will try again and try my best. I will apologize and ask for help. Heres to trying to tip the scales in favor of securing more rights than wrongs and being more like flowing water than like a brick wall.
