Your moment of zen.
Nestled in the quaint hot spring village of Nozawa Onsen lays an open air communal kitchen where villagers gather to wash and boil various vegetables and eggs in natural mineral-rich hot spring water.
"Ogama-no-yu," is among Nozawa's 13 unique public bathhouses (aka "SOTOYU") that locals, skiers, and wellness travelers visit year-round for an authentic cultural experience.
This type of hot spring is rare in Japan as the water here reaches an incredible 90ºC (194ºF), ideal for washing nozawana (Japanese leaf vegetable), cooking produce and boiling eggs.
In winter, the steam rising from the five boiling pools gives the place a somewhat otherworldly beauty, designating Ogama as a natural monument of national importance.
If you're a winter enthusiast, there is nothing like combining Nozawa's deep powder snow with a rich cultural experience at Ogama!

What brings you peace and presence right NOW?
Every Wednesday moving forward we'll be posting people, places, and things (all with amazing, positive energy and frequencies) that remind us to slow down, take a breathe and get back into the present moment.
As tourists, we often hurry to get to one place or destination, snap that photo or video for Instagram, and carry on...
But as global travelers, the more we take time to pause and observe what's in front of us, the deeper we can connect with ourselves and the heartbeat of where we are standing. e
Remember that each travel moment is once in a lifetime, so make it count.
Want to join in? Tag us in your posts, stories ans reels, especially when you're on the road! 🚗🛫🚉

Tokyo 2022 Snowstorm
🌨 Tokyo shivering under an unusually prolonged snowfall on Thursday, with heavy snow warnings issued for the city for the first time in four years!
A total of 3.9 inches (10cm) of snow fell, the most since 2018 and 10th heaviest snow in January since records began in 1876. To put this event into context, the prefecture averages about 2-4 inches of snow each year.
More than 200 people were sent to hospitals after slipping and falling. We hope they recover quickly!!! 🙏

T-Minus 30 days until the Opening Ceremonies happen at the Kokuritsu kyōgijō stadium.
This stadium was constructed in December 2016 to serve as the main stadium for the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as the venue for track and field athletics events at the Summer Games. Kokuritsu kyōgijō, or the New National Stadium, has an interesting history of its construction.
Due to budget constraints, the stadium has undergone various reconstructions, such as decreasing seating, and creating a retractable roof.

Koto at the Tamashige workshop
The Tamashige family workshop in Ube has been hand crafting koto for over 100 years. Nearly lost to history, the koto, or Japanese harp, is now the national instrument of Japan. Today it’s not only used in traditional music, but also in modern genres like rock and pop. Along with the Tamashige workshop, Ube is home to many craftsmen seeking to both maintain and advance Japanese traditions. Does this instrument sound familiar?

"You're Welcome" in Japanese
The common translation of “you’re welcome” is どういたしまして (dō itashimash*te), but should only be used if you’ve done something that truly deserves the other person’s thanks. Since Japanese etiquette relies on being humble, this phrase can come off as rude if used in the wrong situations. If you want to be more humble, you can say いえいえ (ieie), which means "no no" or "don’t mention it".
"Thank You" in Japanese
ありがとうございます (arigatou gozaimasu) is one of the most common phrases used to express thanks in Japanese. For more formality, どうもありがとうございます (Doumo arigatou gozaimasu) can be used. It can also be shortened to ありがとう (arigatou) for less formality.
Have a great weekend!
