Back to School Beautification
It's almost time for students to return to school and we want to make sure the Manual campus is sparkling. We are holding a Back to School Beautification on Thursday, August 15 4-6pm at the main entrance. We'll focus on the outdoor areas by spreading mulch, caring for the gardens, and picking up trash. If this date doesn't work for you, please consider volunteering to do some interior painting on your own time, prior to the start of school on August 19th. To participate, please complete this brief form: https://forms.gle/GjKqtvbHKzKM3c9H9

PHNEE Event Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Keyes Decision

Park Hill Neighbors for Equity in Education is hosting an event on Feb 10th at Manual High School. The Keyes case was Denver’s court ordered desegregation case and had (and continues to have) a massive impact on Denver, and the country.

Christi Keyes Romero (daughter of Wilfred Keyes, named plaintiff in the case), Buddy Noel, Pat Pascoe, Dr. Kathy Escamilla, Mike Atkins, and several current high school students will be participating. We think it will be a powerful event and would love to see you all there.

Register here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/integration-and-equity-in-denver-public-schools-50-years-after-keyes-tickets-789823171367

And, spread the word about the event!

Join us for an in-person event looking back at the past 50 years in order to move towards true integration and equity for the future of DPS.

It's with great sadness that we share the passing of Jim McNally. Jim was an educator, author and dedicated historian, besides being a 1957 graduate if Manual. He was born and raised in Denver and facinated by the history of his hometown. As a local historian, he compiled a book in 2000 for Charlie "Bronco" Goldberg titled: Broncos: How Sweet It Is! He received a MA in History (1970) and Educational Media (1975) from the University of Northern Colorado. While a teacher of US history for over 25 years, he always emphasized the importance of Denver, Manual, and minorities in the narrative of our country. His second book, Denver's Manual High School- 1876 Bricklayers to Thunderbolts 2016 explored the history of his alma mater.

Jim will be remembered for his dedication to archiving Manual's history. He was the driving force behind "Bolting through the Decades" - the display cases found in the Thunderdome galleria. Jim curated and created the displays representing each decade since the founding of Manual in the 1890s.

He spearheaded the creation of the alumni room on the 3rd floor of the school. When it had to be moved to make room for McAuliffe Manual Middle School, Jim was determined to create a new home for all the memorabilia that defines Manual. With a generous donation from Jim, a group of dedicated volunteers are currently working making his dream come true.

Rest in peace, Jim. We'll miss you!
