Breaking news, a bonus SOB #72 pro, Abby Van Winkle, , will be joining us for this Ixtapa trip! She comes to us at the recommendation of current, and former college partner, SOB-Pro Savvy Simo. Together during their days at UCLA, Abby and Savvy were 13-2 before COVID cut their, and everyone else’s, season short. Abby finished her UCLA career three wins shy of the program record. She and Savvy re-teamed this past season, after a brief time together in 2021, for both domestic and international competitions. Just like college, they were immediately successful. The pair never finished out of the top 10 in six AVP starts and won both the Denver (amazing how many SOB pros win in Denver) and Virginia Beach AVP’s. A victory at a NORCEA event in Cuba rounded out a very good 2024. Can’t wait to meet and welcome Abby to the SOB family (drink)!

Olympic bookends in Ixtapa 2025 as our final SOB #72 pro is 2016 Canadian Olympian Chaim Schalk, . This will be Chaim’s 4th SOB Volleyball Vacation, but first time to Ixtapa. Chaim's pro career started in 2010 on the FIVB tour representing Canada and he has since notched over 100 starts. He has earned FIVB podiums in Argentina, Japan, Poland, Croatia, and Austria, as well as a 9th place at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Chaim began competing on the AVP in 2017 and grabbed his first win in Seattle two years later. Chaim has continued to be an international stalwart, playing for the United States since 2020, with more than 20 trips overseas the past two years. It will be great to have someone with such international experience on the beach with us in Mexico!

Our ninth Ixtapa 2025 pro, Toni Rodriguez, , will be making her second trip with us since her debut in PV a couple years ago. After four years at Louisiana State University playing both indoor (as an outside hitter) and beach volleyball, Toni started her professional career on the beach in 2019. An early season knee injury forced her to miss most of 2022 (except for her trip with us in Puerto Vallarta), but she and SOB-Pro Savvy Simo did well in 2023 taking top 10 finishes in six of seven starts. Teaming up with another SOB-Pro, Geena Urango, this past season, they won the first ever AVP League title and Toni was named best blocker on the women’s side. It will be a pleasure having Toni back with with us for SOB #72!

Since starting with us in 2022, Savvy Simo, , our eighth Ixtapa pro, has been a mainstay on the trips because of her boundless energy and sunny personality. Savvy played both indoors and on the beach for UCLA, as she did for WAVE Volleyball Club in San Diego where she grew up. She became the 25th Bruin to join the 1,000 dig club indoors (2016-2019), finishing her career 20th all time with 1,057 digs. Savvy ended her collegiate beach career (2017-2021) with 119 wins, the second most wins in program history, back to back National Championships in 2018 & 2019, and All-American honors her final season. She has quickly transitioned to the pro side of beach volleyball, with top 10 finishes in 21 of her 24 starts on the AVP the past three years and victories in both Denver and Virginia Beach last season. Can’t wait to experience Savvy’s infectious enthusiasm once again at SOB #72!

Evan Cory, will be on the sand in Ixtapa with us for his second year in a row, and 7th overall SOB Volleyball Vacation, as our seventh pro. Evan dabbled on the AVP starting in 2015, but counts 2021 as his first year as a professional beach volleyball player, when he finished 9th in the Manhattan Beach AVP Open. Since then, he has racked up 20 top ten finishes in 23 AVP starts playing with fellow SOB-Pros Logan Weber, Billy Kolinske, and Troy Field. In 2024, playing alongside Brazilian legend Alison Ceruitti, he claimed his first championships with wins at both the Denver and Waupaca AVPs. He also claimed his first major overseas win with a thrilling victory at the Haikou Challenge. Evan is easy to spot on any beach by his blue Zinka sunscreen nose. Looking forward to having Evan with us for SOB #72!

Returning to Ixtapa for a third year in a row as our sixth SOB #72 pro is Eric Beranek, . Eric will make his 5th trip with us, having been to all three of our locations in Mexico. After playing a few professional events here and there, this young kid (then just 23) committed to beach volleyball full time in 2018, qualifying in 4 of 6 AVP tournaments. He was the volleyballmag.com Breakthrough Player of the Year, due in part to a memorable 3rd place finish with SOB-Pro Bill Kolinske at the prestigious 2019 Manhattan Beach Open, and is known for being one of the fastest players on the AVP Tour. While Eric has been hampered a bit by injuries the past few seasons, he has still played with 14 different partners in 30+ tournaments during professional career giving him a perspective that belies his year’s on tour. Looking forward to learning a lot from Eric this trip!

Fifth on the list of Ixtapa 2025 pros is Geena Urango, . SOB #72 will be her 13th SOB Volleyball Vacation and third Ixtapa in a row. Geena has competed in more than 80 domestic tournaments since first joining the professional ranks in 2006, but 2022 has to be considered her breakout year. In ten AVP tournaments that season, she nabbed her first win at the AVP Atlanta Open, finished 2nd three times (Muskegon, Fort Lauderdale, and Tavares), and 3rd twice (Denver and Hermosa Beach). She continued her winning ways the next two seasons with eight top ten finishes in nine AVP starts in 2023 and five for five in 2024. Her 2024 finishes qualified her and teammate, SOB-Pro Toni Rodriguez, for the AVP League which they, with their male teammates, won in exciting fashion at the two-day final competition. For her efforts she was named the League’s female MVP. So glad Geena will be joining us once again in Ixtapa!
